All this talk about the 0-60, trap speed, and weight and only a few people (2?) mentioned anything about the PRICE!!!

A 3 series car, M or not, should not cost 70k.....i mean, M5's are going for a little more with a tiny bit of miles on them....and think about all the other cars that are now in range (new and used) for 70k money.

That is just weak in my opinion. Ill take my 70 grand elsewhere...

PS: Thanks for sharing the article Greg...

dont forget that a fully optioned e46 m3 ('vert)was about $66k before taxes....

mine has a sticker of $65,800 or something...

so $70k is not that big of a stretch.

many people forget that an optioned out m3 was +$10k on base price. my point is, people have been paying over $70k with taxes so i dont see them running away from the new m3 just because now it will be $70k before taxes...

not saying i would pay that much, just saying it is really not unchartered teritorry...

no prob man...yea even the mags are saying it...70k for a 3 series is crazy! for 70 grand bmw AND audi can go f*ck themselves...ill buy a used 996TT and have a faster and better handling car for abotut he same price and not to mention how it will be after pss9s and full exhaust and intake and chip.

but for the price of 70K for a coupe there are better options, at least thats the way i see it.

oh yea! def not uncharted territory...i mean my 04 coupe new went for over 60K with taxes and all. i even think the resale value of these new m3s is going to be sh*t...look at the m5s..new they go for like 95-100K and you can pick one up wiht like 10k miles on it for low 60s!

the m5 not holding its value is a very big misconception. i have explained that a few times on this board. m5 values are just fine. they are actually holding values better than predicted. what people are forgetting is that even a small % drop on a large price tag = big dollars.

You've got to compare the M3 to other *new* cars. Comparing to used cars is great, and what many of us would do, but its not really fair since BMW is competing against other new car manufacturers. All its competitors are right in the same pricing ballpark.

I do agree though, $70k on an M3 seems steep.

In my mind, the only other new car i would consider along side the new M3 (yea, despite my posts i do love M3's and would love to own the new one) is the Nissan GTR.

Otherwise im with Greg - 996TT all the way!

man, i almost pulled the trigger on a used turbo coupe (996) late last year. car only had 10k mi and was in good shape. but to me there is just something wrong with spending $70k on a 4 year old used car.

dude, they are so fun to drive...i would have been emptying that 70k out of my bank account if i were in that situation. 10k miles! there isnt a single car i can think of that compares to the thrill and rush of driving a 911 turbo...i love every time i drive my dads.
