Porsche PSM

Is this option only available from the factory, or is it plug and play and a dealer can install it??

I think you might be a bit confused...

PSM is Porsche Stability Management aka Traction Control, Dynamic Stability Control in BMW-speak. It is standard on the 987.

PASM is Porsche Active Suspension Management, which is electronic adjustment of shock dampening. It is an option.

No you can't. I had a Boxster S and I almost spun out on several occassions. I'm so spoiled now with PSM on my Carrera S, and I know it has saved me on multiple occasion.

The only thing I recommend is to take more driving classes. Its all part of the fun of owning a Porsche (especially since it doesn't have PSM).

Guys PSM is great for driving fast in the wet.... otherwise it just interfears with the cars natural handeling charater ...the car will give you lots of warning before it comes out (exessive oversteer) past a point of no return.
The fun in real driving lies in the drivers ability to control the angle of oversteer with the throttle and wheel.... SO if i were you i would take the car to an open area dosent even have to be tar and learn how to let the back end go a little and learn how to turn in' to control or counter the oversteer....
Once you start to get this and it wont take long you will start to enjoy real driving by learning balance in a corner(fast or slow) its sooo much fun
I push PSM off everytime i see a corner.... and spun once out of ....many times

PSM doesn't correct everything. I've known some folk who have spun out their rides with PSM on.
