Removing Bumperettes

has anyone removed the black warts off their rear bumper? can you do it without replacing the whole bumper? i'd rather not have to take the car in for paint work.

I like the look of them removed, but at the same time I also like the look of them painted.

You will need to replace the rear bumper cover with a Euro bumper cover. Euro cars do not have the bumperettes.

Or, if you want to do it on the cheap, you could remove the bumperettes and the aluminum mounting brackets that protrude through the bumper. Then fab up some kind of trim panel to cover up the entire license plate area to cover the holes. Maybe cover it with a carbon fiber or CF looking material instead of painting.

Yup, that's been done and I think it looks pretty good. I did mine with a thin sheet of flat black plastic to cover the holes and then I covered that with some silver, perforated metal. There should be some photos over on 986forum if you do a search. I'm under the same user name there.

I've also seen it done with tinted plexiglass as the cover, which looked great on a black car. Alternatively one person cut out the entire opening and just put in a screen mesh...

We paint 'em all day long. Smooth finish, still flexible just like the bumper, and we can send the new ones to you first, then you drop your old ones back. Been doing this for a long, long time (since the '97 Boxster). Check the Order page at www.BumperPlugs.com or email me for questions: eric@bumperplugs.com
