So what next for my 3.4L Boxster

This is my first post on this board and I could use some suggestions. It's been 5 years since I upgraded the engine in my 99 986. It's mostly a DE track car these days. I still drive it on the street now and then but it hasn't had anything but DOT R compounds for about 4 years. The car is a lot of fun to drive but a few years ago it seemed like everybody got new GT3s for Christmas. Now it seems like everybody has a Monster Turbo, C2, GT3 RS or *&^% cup car! Since I can't see any of those happening in the next couple of years so I need to freshen up the Boxster.

Current Setup:

3.4L non e-gas
Stock 5 speed
LW FW and sport clutch.
Custom FVD Headers, cat. bypass pipes -w- stock muffler
Stock intake with B&M filter
ECU from FVD -w- the rev limiter at 7,800 rpms
x51 Oil plate
Short shifter
PSS9s, Camber plates in front spherical mounts in the rear

I see talk of TT Boxsters here and I'll keep watching that would be fun.

I'm told that there are now shorter gear sets available, maybe I could use 5th somewhere besides Daytona.

I could really use a LSD at Sebring to get more power down but I didn't have a problem with it last weekend at VIR.

A new cam would be nice but it's a pretty large expense to install it and then get the ECU reprogrammed again. Worth it?

Slicks seem like a waste of money for DEs but thats surely the simplest way to pick up a few seconds.

Other options?

Thanks,

Scott

I have a Boxster with a twin turbo setup. I have had it for 9 months and love every bit of it.
Would a supercharger built for a 3.4 fit?
How about reducing the weight of the car?

What kind of HP bump did you get?

Going on a diet is probably next. I'm going to install a full cage soon so most of the interior will come out. I don't know about giving up the AC down here in FL though. I haven't seen a SC that will work on a 3.4 Boxster, that would be a lot simpler then a turbo.

I went from a base line dyno of 164 to 235.

Turbowerx in Austin did the work for me on the turbos (www.turbowerx.com), if you talk to him tell him I sent you.
Have you checked with bored sponsor Imagine Auto on the SC? They do a kit for the 2.5 Boxster and may be able to fab one up for yours.

My power is possibly close to 280-295, the 235 number is at the wheels up from 164 baseline with no mods. I am not going to get into the drivetrain loss numbers the argument has too many opinions. My 99 2.5 came from Porsche with only 201 hp at the crank. So the turbo is a significant increase for those of us with smaller engines.

But, I will trade you my engine with the turbos for yours with out.

intake plenum with new software will help out... some guys are using a Motorsports throttle body and Plenum with some programing. You could also change out your PSS9's springs for some stiffer eibachs... past that and some slicks I think that you will only get that boxster faster with more driving instruction and a diet... Maybe more downforce? Kokeln makes a slick rear wing...

Re: Kokeln wing

I like that. I'm planning to put in a full cage and put it on a diet. Some downforce would be nice. Any idea how much they want for the wing and deck lid?
