Sport Exhaust (PSE) power change

I just had a PSE installed on my '08 Boxster S.

sounds amazing...love it...

however, maybe its my imagination, but the car now feels slightly less powerful? Like it lost some kick. Is this possible? Anyone else out there installed PSE that can compare before/after.

I would think it would be the same (at least)....I know Porsche doesn't (claim) to add any horsepower. But with easier exhaust gasses out....makes sense it should add a few HP at the least...regardless.... don't think it should lower performance...

maybe i'm just getting used to the new car .....

Hi GCB:

Would you mind telling me what the system cost installed? I imagine this exhaust leaves both sets of cats (all 4) in place? I've been contemplating this for my 07 Boxster S.

Does the car feel less powerful across the entire RPM range? Or just up high or low?

Later...

Hi there,

cost is about 2600 installed (private shop) ... dealer will be about 2900. pretty expensive.....

I still think its my imagination, but if I had to say...probably feel it at low end more.

it does sound really awesome though...not much different sound at low rpm, but open it up and its so cooool!!

by the way...i also had the porsche short shifter installed too... I was debating on this, but it is GREAT!!... definitely worth the money ~500 installed. highly recomended.

good luck

Thanks for the info on pricing. As far as a real (not perceived?) loss of low end torque, I haven't seen side any side - before and after dyno pulls with the PSE. I can only guess that due to less back pressure, you may have lost a bit of low end torque. Usually, this is accompanied by a slight increase in high RPM HP.

My 2 cents...

when the PSE is turned on, does it bypass the muffler? i understand that there's a butterfly that opens and closes. does the exhaust get redirected to a straight-through pipe in the muffler?

there is a completely new muffler system with a relay that when activated redirects the exhaust through the sport exhaust section of the system. It is actually more that just a on/off butterfly valve.. it actually is integrated into the electronics of the motor that interacts with the RPM and demand on the engine... sounds great.. nice little growl and low speed and idle (close to stock), but when you get on it or at higher RPM's it really has a nice rumble/growl.... very sporty sound! and very Porsche sounding which was a huge plus... very expensive, but I think well worth it..

Any chance of getting a video with audio so we can here it? Did your setup include headers, cats and mufflers, or just cat back, or just mufflers??

Thanks!

Are you referring to Capristo?

I never seen modern engines, suffering from a lack of backpressure.

I am going to have a local independent mechanic install it ... he worked for the Porsche factory prepping their race cars for a number of years in Germany. I can't imaging he will charge me more than $3-400 ... he is a family friend so I'm pretty lucky. That plus I got the system new from Suncoast for about $1800, so all in all lookin' at about $2100 US or so ... not so bad in my humble opinion.

Good luck getting the audio up!

So you're fitting it to a 986 or 987 model? Standard or "S"?
