The Dreaded RMS

Dealer just let me know that I've got the dreaded RMS..

Wonder if that's why my clutch has been slipping.

Car's out of warranty, so it's coming out of my pocket (should I decide to do it).. What's it gonna cost me?

RMS is actually an $8 part. I am assuming you took it in for slipping clutch right? It should be about $100 more to change out the RMS since the transmission has to be moved out of the way anyway. If you look at a picture of its location, you will see getting to the RMS is about 1to 2 more steps more than replacing the clutch. You might as well replace the flywheel while there in there.

I actually just took it in for an oil change, and the service manager called me to let me know. Sure enough, I went out to my parking spot and saw the puddle of oil that had been collecting for god knows how long. (It's a blacktop, so I guess I never noticed it)

They quoted me around $800 all said and done to fix it.. I'm probably going to wait a bit, and get the clutch/flywheel done as well (since like you suspected, I noticed the slipping clutch).

i had a 2001 boxster s with 44k miles on it when the first RMS went bad. replaced under warranty.

the next one went out at like 61k miles or so. at that point, out of warranty and in need of the 60k svc, i traded. irritating.

How much is labor to change a clutch and RMS...ballpark? I've got a 1997 2.5L Boxster.

$800 for RMS is pretty cheap if at a dealer. I'd do it and get the clutch done as well since ur slipping already. You get a 2 yr warranty against future leak. This is worth the money doing it at a dealer. Also, the dealer has proper tools. The job is pretty much all labor except if you do the clutch as well.
