Toyo R888 on rear only?

Hey guys, so my rear tires are pretty worn down now, and a friend of mine has a pair of R888 that I could throw on... Would it make any sense to put the R888 on only the rear, or would the mismatch between standard street front tires (NT555), and Race compound on the rear make this a pointless upgrade without putting the R888s on all four?

I know the obvious answer would be to get a set for up front as well, though, just wondering if throwing these R888 on the rears only for now would still provide any benefit for handling/performance... Mostly street driving, and occasional track.

Your thoughts? Not worth the effort ?.... detrimental performance?.... couldn't hurt?.... or slight benefit?

I would assume by "track" you mean this:

You need four R888. I've tried two PSC with two R888, it's not good. It's ok if you are just doing easy street driving thou... No performance gain at all with only two and maybe even dangerous if you are going to be driving hard.

The R888 is a very grippy DOT-legal race tire. The NT555 is a street tire with much lower levels of adhesion. Putting R888 on the rears only would make your car understeer heavily. It wouldn't be much fun.

Thanks for the advice guys... that makes total sense. Good call, saved me before wasting time/effort on something that would make my handling worse. I appreciate it!

How about this, R888 in the rear and MPSC in the front? I have a set of 70% tread front MPSC already and was thinking of getting just rear R888's to save some money over MPSC...

Will I have issues with this setup? Oh, and I will only use them at the track, not on the street, only to drive to the track...

Like to drive 930's? That is what the MPSC/R888 combo will make your car feel like.

BTW, what size are the MPSC's? If you are going to ditch them I would be willing to buy them if the size is right. I need 235/40-18.
