Boxster 986 with 996 GT3 brake conversion..
Has anyone ever done a GT3 brake conversion for a porsche boxster 986...I have a 1999 boxster 986 and I would like to install these but I dont know what spindle or hub to use I was told that I need a whole new complete carrier off of a 2002 996.

Sounds like brake overkill (stock brakes are fabulous on a 99) but I am sure it could be done. Most of the 99 track monsters that run 285 Hoosier R6's all around put on Box S front brakes which is a simple Rotor/caliper/pad bolt em on deal. Still overkill for those of us running street tires in stock class.

This is a VERY expensive proposition with several thousand in changing out wheel carriers, hubs, bearings, etc., plus the brakes. One shop did some custom work to fit PCCB, and I think the tab (before the PCCB costs) was around $10K. If you have base brakes, you need to have a pretty good reason for that kind of a jump.

ekam,
The company is GiroDisc. I know they are in some sort of volume production for the Cayman S since RSS is selling them although they are not in the GiroDisc store yet. The Cayman S fronts are identical to the 986S (and Boxster 987S, of course) as well as 996 base. The rears, however, are different. Mine are essentially custom/prototypes. Is yours a base? Front S are a direct bolt-on, but the rears have a different parking brake setup. Unless you are purely after heat soak in the fronts, be careful about messing up your brake bias or increasing unsprung weight for no good reason.

I've been looking into doing brake swaps for a bit. Yes I have a base and I was considering getting the S front brake kit from suncoast. Preferably I would like to swap out the rear calipers/rotors as well but I'm not sure how complicated this would be.

There is allegedly a special Brembo rotor that can be used in the rear of a base to use the S calipers. There is a guy on 986Forum that posts over there a lot that has them, but when asked, hasn't replied about them. I have also read of people doing some parking brake mods to fit the S parking brakes. You will have to do some research on this.
Note that a lot of people with base brakes are happy with them. Be sure you explore options such as brake pads, etc., before upgrading your brakes. Of course, if you need more heat soak, then you need bigger brakes.

I think GT3 brakes would be over kill. If you have a base model 986, then I would completely agree that stock brakes are not up to challenge. The cost of swapping over a full gt3 setup would be a little out of proportion to the cost of the car itself. I did a conversion of a base 986 to a 993tt front, as well as converting the rears to S model. It only took a day to do and was around $3000 before I sold the old brakes. There is no more fade and the initial bite of the brakes is amazing. The bias is perfect as well since the upgrade in the rear helps even things out (albeit a small increase). A 996 GT3 weights over 200lbs more then a 99 986, and has much more power. I think the additional size, cost, and weight of changing out to the GT3 setup is unreasonable, unless you plan on turning it into a track car and upgrading the HP numbers. The big brake kit from sun coast is very economical and even comes with SS lines which really make a difference. Add up to cost of what you want to do, it just isn’t worth it. If you are really set on that big, just go get the Brembo 355 kit. That way you don’t have to mess around with the carriers and additional cost. I can stop just as fast as someone with 355s because abs is going to have to fight to keep the tires either way, and I can accelerate faster because I don’t have the additional weight. You can only stop as fast, or accelerate as fast as your tires will allow.

Thank guys for your input. I posted this question for a friend of mine and will forward him the responses. I believe he's already got the brakes. His car is heavly modded with a 3.6l conversion and is gonna put on a charger soon. His car is real unique and can be seen at patritti.com. It's the white boxster with a widebody and 997 lights.

Well the fronts wont be too hard. C2 wheel carriers will not work (C4S would but you need to swap around the tension flanges since it is awd) so I would recommend getting the gt3 wheel carrier, rotors, calipers, the lot! The wheel carriers I have seen for 600, but I would check with your local dealer because I am sure they have changed. Even with all those factory parts, the brake lines are going to need to be changed around, also an excellent time to put in ss braded lines. To get the rears to work, I can’t begin to explain that over the internet. It is very involved because you cannot simply switch around the carrier on the rear since the suspension is so drastically different. The rear calipers are going to need to have spacers cut, maybe someone already has them. I would talk to the guys over at FVD. They told me the adapter kit I purchased from them would work on gt3 rears although I have second guessed that after my install. The rotors may need to be spaced from the hub face to get proper center. The hardest thing for the rear apart from the adapter will be the E-brake.
Two resources that will be very valuable are
FVD For the adapter 1-800-274-2220
Steve at Suncoast 1-877-923-1700 he is also on 6 speed ( SuncoastSteve ) good prices and he could probably gather up everything and ship it.

Btw-I could see this being pretty expensive, you might as well go with ceramics to up the cool factor!
