Stupid question on Sport Chrono Package

I cannot find a clear answer in the literature. Does the Sport Chrono Package give you more HP? The S model comes with 320HP standard. Does the option just remap the ECU for better performance?

The reason that I am asking is that I want to get a Cayman and prep it for the track. Do I need this option?

Thanks

In the 06-08 it extends the rev limiter to 7300, adjusts throttle response(extremely sensitive) and also makes the psm less intrusive allowing a little slip angle.

I was going to skip the PSM option. Is there way to completely turn off the anti-skid?

It doesn't actually extend the rev limiter, it allows full power all the way up to 7300 rpm for a 'hard cutoff'. Without sport chrono you have a 'soft cutoff' where power is gradually reduced starting at 6800 rpm. The max cutoff is still at 7300 rpm for both. As stated, throttle response is more sensitive, and psm less intrusive.

Although there is no more horsepower, the best acceleration times will be marginally quicker with sport chrono because you have full power all the way up to the 7300 rpm shiftpoint at redline. Without sport chrono you'll be better off shifting at 6800.

If you want to set up the car for the track and intend to install some aftermarket stuff, you might want to reconsider spending money for the sport chrono.

I just picked up a 2006 Cayman, and am in the process of modifying it for the track. You can purchase aftermarket ECU software that incorporates everything the sport chrono does, and will give you some extra hp to boot. EVOMS and Softronic are probably the two best that I know of.
