987 stock exhaust sound modification.
difficulty rating 1 to 10: 1.5
tools needed:
-13mm deep socket
-ratcheting wrench
for elimination of drone optional:
-air cut off wheel (recommended)
-dremel
Not sure if this mod has any performance gains but it sure does sound and feel like it. I was just curious after realizing TechART had a "sound box" muffler tip add-on for the stock exhaust system. They said it made the car sound more aggressive but were not sure about performance gains. Here is what I did:
No need to jack up the car just get your 13mm deep socket and wrench. See the cross over pipe over the tip.
Loosen the two 13mm bolts.
Once loose the sleeve can very easily slide over, slide it over now.
You can see there is only a slight gap between the pipes.
wpmjr cut the end of the pipe and it helped reduce drone. Here is an example of what he did. The red line shows where to cut.
It seems that there are slight differences in each exhaust or how they are fit because mine had a larger gap already. Another good idea would be to cut a triangle or U out so you can use the sleeve to adjust the sound by sliding it back and forth. Thats what I did here:
You can see now it can control the sound better, it also eliminates drone.
Now tighten both bolts again, so they wont rattle or fall off. The sound is alot louder and deeper. It only takes 5min. These video clips kinda suck but its better than nothing.

I drove and checked it out on the ButtDyno and it certainly felt like it had more kick, probably not though. The sound is great too. Pretty cool and cheap mod if you wanna see how your car might sound with an aftermarket exhaust.
