Boxster swap for 911 engine

Recently, i posted a thread about trying to get more power out of my baby boxster's 2.7 l engine. Turns out you can't get too much out of it. Almost everyone recommended just getting a new car.

Here's the thing, i looked around for new cars, even older 911's. I couldn't let my baby Boxster go. It was my first car at 16 years old, and I pretty much love it too much.

Now that i want more power, and having made slight budget adjustments lol, i'm throwing a 997 engine in there. The choices i got here are the 997 3.6l or the 3.8l S. Anyone got any suggestions?

3.4l 996 engine would be a lot easier. Prob less expensive too.

I agree - 3.4 swaps have been perfected to the point that they are a virtual bolt-in. I think it just requires minor motor-mount modifications for intake clearance and perhaps a new instrument cluster. There a number of specialists that can do this swap and know all the associated problems and necessary adjustments.

I'm no expert - but I believe that using a 997 engine would require much more to make it work. I think even 996 3.6 swaps are more complicated due to ECU differences, etc.

Anything can be done, but I'm guessing that the 997 swap would easily be a $10K premium. Having said that, if you have explored this enough to seriously consider it, why would you go with the 3.6 over a 3.8? If you have decided you are willing to pay for this operation, go with the bigger engine.
