Question Aftermarket Navigation/Head Unit

Hey guys,

I've been lurking the forums for a few months but just recently decided to join. I'm thinking about replacing my stock PCM/Navi unit with an aftermarket one (currently looking at the Pioneer Z110BT).

I was wondering if any of you guys have done this and have any advice for good head units, etc.

I'm located in SoCal and was wondering if anyone knew of any good installers that wouldn't charge an arm and a leg to install a new unit.

On top of this, is there anything in particular that I should look out for when removing the PCM (any functionality i may lose or problems I'll run into?).

I really appreciate the help in advance.

Im looking to do something similar except replace the CDR24 for an Alpine Nav/Head Unit. Will there be any problems integrating it with the bose system??

I've been doing a decent amount of research on this and I still haven't reached a conclusive decision on what's necessary to complete the install, i think some people are saying that they were able to still utilize the bose amp (at least for the sub) and just connect it straight to the head unit, other people are using an aftermarket amp and then wiring in the bose amp/sub into it.

What I do know is that it is possible to be done with the CDR24/CDR30 + Bose, what I'm not sure about, and I'd love to find it is if there are any complications with doing it with a system that originally had PCM installed, or would it be the exact same install once you get the PCM out.

Here's a thread on Planet-9 that goes in depth into the installation of a head unit into a bose equipped 987 and includes an install guide, seems pretty complicated.
