There was a guy at the track with the TPC turbo kit, and some other very nice modifications (LSD, GT3 controls, sways, etc.). It is possible to get the cayman up to pretty incredible performance...it's just going to cost you $20-25k. Which when you think about it - isn't that bad. Near GT3 performance for the price of a carrera.

Oh yeah, with some aero, a bit more hp and a great driver, these cars can definitely go. The CSR class Caymans that run with POC are running sub 1:30's at Big Willow, that's blistering fast. I'll definitely try to catch the show, thanks for the heads up.

I think it takes some time to get used to how they are powered... reminds me of the Vtech style engines in the Hondas... just gotta be in the right gear at all times or the car just laaaags bad.

So true. I plan to do the TPC turbo conversion in the near future.

I didn't consider this... What RPM's should I have stayed over?

(Where is the powerband?)

I think I was a little hesitant to run it as hot as my car (simply because it wasn't mine). And this may have exaggerated the issue of power I saw.

My car is 100% stock power except for an underdrive pulley... and I really need to be above 5500 to have any significant power at all unfortunately. I think with some mods like a tune, exhaust, intake and IPD plenum, it would definitely be better...the difference at a small tight track and a big sweeping track is night and day for "MY CAR"...

I think this is a bit exaggerated, but not by much. I find that keeping the car in the 4000 - 6000 RPM range is pretty much a must. Below 4000 is a bear. Above 6000 it starts to run out of breath.

Maybe it's all relative then, I came from a reasonably high hp car prior to the Cayman S. Don't get me wrong as I think the car is fantastic...but really, 4000 rpm as you're getting on it at apex and you will be lagging out of that corner...hahaha. on stock hp level.

I don't know what you guys are talking about A stock Cay S will turn low 1:30s at WSIR with nothing more than a decent set of comp tires and comp seats. Marvelous 3.4L powerplant in those cars but it will not kick like a turbo.

If you find it lagging out of corners either you filled it with diesel fuel or... it ain't the car .

I think we can both agree that low 130's in a stock cayman s at WSIR with just tires is not the average driver. My point of view may be skewed coming from a high hp car... but I'm sure with more time in this car, I'll figure it out and get better.

True - if you're accustomed to a very high HP car, then yes the cayman will feel sluggish regardless of RPM! For me, I am pretty happy with how the car performs in that 4k to 6k range on the track.

Nice to see GTR buddy here, thanks for the review.
I track both my CaymanS and GTR, IMO, what they have in common are nice cars and 6 cylinders, that's it!

lol! Exactly!

I was my pleasure, I assure you. I'm still talking about this experience with my wife. She loves Porsches...

We ARE getting a track car, and I'm all over the place with this. I go back and forth between a C5 'Vette, C6, 996 C2S, etc... She would LOVE it if I got either another GT-R or Porsche (any model). This isn't helping my wallet AT ALL.

i keep hearing about the cayman having the superior handling but is there true proof that its faster on test tracks? factoring in weight, same hp? i still think the 911 is boss.
