Im about to buy my first Porsche 986

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here and I hope to be a 986 owner soon. I have what I think is a super deal on a black 98 with a clean title and 50,000 miles. The interior is in good condition and the paint looks good. There are a few things that are making me hesitate. First, the carfax report says its been in a accident resulting in frame damage. I can tell the driver rear quarter panel has been replaced/repaired. The driver side seam in the rear trunk looks different from the passenger side. I'm assuming that's the frame damage. The second issue is the driver door and the cover for the soft top don't line up. The front seam of the door is slightly larger on the top then on the bottom. The door also sticks out a little at the rear when shut. It kinda looks like the door isn't shut completely. And the cover for the soft top sticks up slightly on the passenger side. I assume I can adjust things to fit a little better but are these signs to other major issues? What should I expect to pay for something in this condition? And what else if anything can I check? I took it out for a spin yesterday and didn't see any concerns at any speed. I'm ready to drop the cash and go topless. I'm just looking for some input to help with a little peace of mind.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Get a pre-purchase inspection. A little money now could save a ton of heartbreak later on.

Sounds to me like they just replaced panels on that accident when it really needed a frame straightening... I would pass on it.

To buy a pre owned car that you know may have frame damage a PPI is a must.

I would say a pass on the car is a must. there are too many low priced 986 models out there to be stuck with this one. Unless you are getting it for free or close to. then I would say buy it and part it out and take the money and get a 986 S.

keep in mind this car is a monocoque frame. once it gets bent it never really goes back the way it should.
