Former 997.1 Owner, Now '11 Cayman Owner
After 5 years without a Porsche, I bought last week a 2011 Cayman (non-S) with PDK. I absolutely love it. Even though I've had it for less than a week, we've bonded, and it is my already my favorite Porsche.

After 6 years without a Porsche, and after about a 2 1/2 year search, I bought a 2011 Cayman with PDK yesterday. The car is Platinum Silver with Black standard interior. In addition to PDK, the car has ventilated, and heated seats, Automatic Climate Control, Bose, 18” Boxster S II wheels, Xenons with headlight washers, Daytime running lights, Colored wheel caps, Rain sensor, Auto Dimming interior, and Porsche Crest on headrests. MSRP was $62,195, and I paid $58,600, and I got fair money on my trade. The purchase was painless, the finance girl and I kind of clicked and a couple of times during the process there was definite sexual blush going on, from both of us. It was literally a sign and drive deal, with nothing down, very low APR, etc.
It was down to the Cayman I bought and a 2010 S model in Guards Red with 6 speed M/T, with about 400 miles (never titled), discounted $8k off the MSRP.
In the end, while I liked the S model, I just thought the base 2011 with 6 miles on the ODO was a better fit for me at this time.
This will be my daily driver.
Here are some impressions:
I really, really like the high quality minimalism in the Gen 2 Cayman interior. The build quality is unparalled, the materials first quality, and everything fits and works well.
I love the smell of the leather and the interior.
I love the ‘less is more’ philosophy Porsche has in electronics. Everything is appropriate, nothing is gaudy, nothing is gratuitous.
I love the reassuring ‘thud’ of the doors when they close, and the solid, bank vault sense they convey.
I love the thunk when the rear hatch closes.
The car is very well screwed, as if hewn from a massive slab of granite, with no squeaks, rattles or errant noises of any kind.
I love the roar of the exhaust note in the cabin when you mash the accelerator pedal, which I’ve done a couple of time to vary the speed during break-in.
I’ve mostly driven in D, shifted manually couple of times with the PDK ****, and couple of times with the shift buttons on the steering wheel, but still getting the feel of the buttons.
As for the color, Platinum Silver, the dealer did a tremendous job of detailing it, as the paint is ultra smooth, and glossy. They clay barred it like I asked them to. The color looks much more classic in person than it does in pictures, and the best way to describe the color is - think James Bond’s Aston Martin coupe in Goldfinger, which also made a brief appearance in Casino Royale (2008) with Daniel Craig. I told the salesman before my final test drive about that, and when I returned from my third and final test drive he said I almost looked like James Bond when I drove up, and that I looked better in the Platinum Silver one than I did the Guards Red one. (flattery will get you everywhere I know).
Although I’ve only had the car for 24 hours, we’ve already bonded, and there’s just something about it, something emotional, that I can’t really explain, but its already my favorite of the 4 Porsches I’ve owned.
