I have no experience with the Gallardo but I can speak to the Cayman (base and S). I have tracked a Cayman S and, to my surprise, loved it more than the GT-3...it handled better, in my opinion. As many others have commented above, the Cayman R, with the weight savings and a little more horsepower should be quite the ride.
I guess it's all going to come down to your personal preference and what you are using the car for. Good luck!

As for city driving for the OP, do you want rear visibility or not

A GT-R starts at $85k. A Cayman S with sports chrono starts at about $65k. Stock for stock, pro drivers have posted very similar times at popular tracks in both cars.
Since the GT-R has a turbo, to compare apples to apples, it's only fair to take the 20k price difference and mod the Cayman...
Spend that 20k on some suspension bits and a turbo, and the Cayman will utterly DESTROY the GT-R in a straight line or on any track, for the same price.
And it will look 10x better doing it.
There is no sane person in the world that thinks a GT-R looks better than a Cayman lol

how did this become a Cayman vs. GTR thread?? Hilarious
If you will only have 1 car, get a Cayman, or a GTR, or a 911... definitely not the Gallardo. If this is a weekend car, no brainer, get the Gallardo if you can afford the expensive maintenance that comes with the car.
In regards to Cayman vs. GTR on the track, stock vs. stock, no contest. if you spend the same amount on both cars in aftermarket mods, the GTR will always kill the Cayman. GTR has proven that computers > physics, LOL. It doesn't matter how heavy the car is, it's FAST on track. On the other hand, the Cayman handles awesome, feels great on track, very balanced and even in stock form is extremely fun to drive.

Ive driven both and it really depends on what you're looking for. If its just a weekend driver, get the Gallardo, you'll love the power. If youre looking for a DD, get the Cayman S, its more practical and you'll be able to drive it to more places. I have a Cayman S now and love it, but if I had a choice, id take a gallardo anyday.

I've had GREAT fun in the Cayman S. I feel connected, the clutch feels perfect, shifting patterns are great, balance is perfect (for me - I liked the way the car seemed to move WITH me), visibility is good, very competent car, but underpowered.
The Lambo's clutch and shifting (to me) didn't feel as 'right' (I don't know how else to explain this - I'm not a journalist), but the steering was phenomenal, power was explosive, cornering was exciting, etc...
If it is just a weekend car, I'd prefer the Gallardo (depending on the DD car). That being said - I know NOTHING of ownership and maintenance of either car.

I have been watching this thread and it's providing some good entertainment. If you are really serious about your question. If you want a reliable driver that you can take anywhere in the country and expect to return without issues for many years to come the only choice is the Porsche. And put a few bucks into a TPC turbo system and you will have more performance then an average driver can handle. If you are after a status symbol in a car and don't really plan on roadtrippin much the Lambo is your choice. You go to these car events and there is always one or two Lambo guy's standing by their car "pose, is this my good side".
Common Sense suggests the Porsche hands down.
