This is a bit of a strange thread

but I'll give it a go.

I own a gallardo, and I DD it for about 4 months. It handled it with no problems. The only issue is the constant attention the car attracts. If you can deal with it and about 10k in up keep than its a great car. I now use it as a weekend car and enjoy it much more that way.

I now DD a 997.2S and its great. I know its different from a cayman but its more similar than a gallardo. If this car is going to be your only car I would go porsche all day long. If its a weekend car go for the gallardo but you might have a hard time finding a nice one for 85k.

Just test drive both cars PERIOD!..You will then decide which you believe is better for yourself not what everyone else "thinks" you should get. Also how did the GT-R get in this topic? He's asking about a Porsche and Lambo not everyone likes to pay $80k and up for a "Nissan" Just my 2cents...Good luck OP and let us know what you decide on.

I think I may have brought it up, when discussing the daily use for a car. I've driven a Cayman S (not an R), a Gallardo, and a GT-R...

I'd rather not get into the - $80k for a Nissan thing (it sounds silly). I was just merely bringing up various strengths of some cars vs others.

I guess it's all going to come down to your personal preference and what you are using the car for. Good luck!

Well, you must have driven a GT3 with an alignment way out of whack... seriously, unless the Caymen is a spec car, there's no way it handles better than porsche's pinnacle track car.

As to the Cayman/Gallardo comparison.... this is the strangest one I've seen before. For myself, (I haven't driven the R but base and S).... the Gallardo just does everything better except for 'feel'.

The Cayman would be a better DD for obvious reasons, but the Gallardo is just on another level. The Cayman platform has razon sharp handling and very reliable, plus maintenance is lower than a higher end exotic.

It has been published many times

that the caymen is a better handling car than the 911 and I've driven a GT3 and a boxster spyder and I can tell you with the same power the spyder would run rings around the GT3

When adding power, you usually add weight which directly affects the balance of the car.

The Cayman is a very well sorted car out of the box, but I drove both the base and S. I find it hard to believe you think the Cayman handles better than a GT3 stock for stock.

I'd take the added weight of two turbos, intercooler, and piping to add 150hp.

I think if the Cayman S came with the same suspension type setup as the GT3, it would run circles around it.

When I drove the GT3, I found it very precise, predictable, planted, etc...

When I drove the Cayman S - I felt it moved with me. It wasn't as planted as the GT3, it felt floaty in comparison (normal). But if we were to adjust the suspension, and add the power, I really feel it would be a better car.

Hmm...

Would that not be apples to oranges then?

I mean, you could mod the Gt3 as well....

Your description of both pretty much sums up how I felt driving both.

I'm thinking this - put the turbo engine in the Cayman, with the GT3 suspension. I'm not talking about modding the GT3 to move the engine forward...

Someone is doing a build (it's posted here in 6speed) with a Cayman and a massive makeover. I'm extremely interested to see how it turns out.
