P Car DD Dilema- '05 CPO Boxster v. 07 Cayman non CPO
Ugggg, gents, looking for some outside input on a slight dilema I'm having...
After owning, loving, and being sucked dry of money on a 911 SC several years ago...(broken head stud=enginge rebuild, broken A/C, crumpled oil lines, etc etc) I have once again decided I need a P car-- but this time I'm telling myself to do it right, the car will be a 3 season DD, if not 4 season DD, in NY through and around NYC. Max I want to spend right now is $30k, to allow a budget for some extras and maybe a set of winter tires/rims.
05 Boxster, 42k miles, CPO (certified pre owned= 2yr warranty bumper-bumper via Porsche Dealers-huge to me), 5spd, 17" wheels, very clean from a dealer. (first year of the new Boxster body style), preferred pkg (cosmetic stuff basically)- $27 "asking price"
vs.
07 Cayman, 42k miles, 17" ft, 18" rear, again very clean, 5spd, balance of the factory warranty (runs out sometime this year- have not researched end date yet) $29.9 "not much less"
Any thoughts, ideas on the longevity and possible issues to be encountered with either- Boxster v. Cayman is not a sore issue for me, a convertible would be just fine for nice days, but I can live without it too. Track use will be maybe 1x year, but it will see some fun twisty roads. And unlike most folks, the lack of any addition of larger wheels is not an issue either- for the ruts and bumps where the roads get really bad here in NY I prefer more sidewall for cushion....
Did the Cayman engines have any IMS or RMS issues as seen on Boxsters?
What are the guys with high mileage Caymans seeing crop up as failure parts?
Thanks for any help or thoughts!
