Why most used Spyders do not have the bucket seats?
I am in the market for a Porsche, mainly a 09 Carrera, however i have been looking the Spyder too which ultimaterly i will have to test both and then decide...
One thing that i notice, however is that most Spyders on the internet (autotrader, cars, etc) have leather sports seats and not the base bucket seats... For me just this is a major disadvantage as IMO the bucket seats really suit and characterise the Spyder!
Why is that?

Just depends, if the dealer ordered the car for their stock, most optioned for the sport seats and the A/C. I added the Sport Seats (heated) in my Spyder, they worked better for me than the buckets. For me it wasn't too many cheeseburgers , it was the difficulty getting in and out of them.

I guarantee we will see the exact same thing happen with the Cayman R.

I loved the bucket seats from the Spyder and GT3 RS cars until I sat in them. Besides being hard to get in and out of (expected with such a seat), the comfort was not as good as I expected. Every body is different, but for me the seats were fine except for the part where the inner padding stops at the top and continues to the leather upper area. It stops abruptly, and the padding sticks out slightly more than the leather part, so it has this uncomfortable notch feel there. I'm sensitive to such things though, so your feelings may be different.
On the other hand, the 997 sport seats fit me perfectly and felt leaps and bounds more comfortable than the 996 sport seats (awful for me) while at the same time feeling more supportive. It all depends on your body, so I would sit in these and try them out if you haven't already.

One reason --- Heated Seats.
I live in PA and to extend the life of the Spyder around here i like to turn on a little heat and my heated seat - windows up - and cruise. It really makes a chilly day a lot better in the Spyder.
If the buckets were heated - no brainer. But they arent......

I got buckets in mine. Leather and Alcantara. Would not change it.
I am a big guy, And I can tell you while it may be more comfortable in the sport leather. Nothing like taking the corners in the buckets.
I come out of the car a bit sore and worked. But that is what you drive this car for the experience.
If you want luxury drive a benz.

You must buy what fits. Most dealers are not intrested what the enthusiast wants. They realize that Porsche buyers are increasingly fair weather drivers, and they order stock cars to accommodate this group.
I have sport buckets in my 08 Cayman, and find them to comfortable.
