Former 996 owner, maybe a Cayman S newbie

Hello, I use to own a 996 C4 but sold it some time back. Anyways, getting the itch to get another Porsche. I test drove a (then) new Cayman S about 2 years ago. I really liked the balance of the car and am considering finding one on the used market. Can someone give me a resource or info on what to look for? Perhaps some common issues/things to look out for. Also, what options are the best to get? The sports crono and ceramic breaks would be great, but just wondering what would be the best value as a buyer in the used market. I'll probably be looking for a price tag under $45k, so most likely an earlier model year.

Thanks in advance!

$45 k should get you an '08. I've been scouring the market for months. I doubt you'll find a car with PCCB and expenses can be high on those. Not sure if you need Sport Chrono with a MT, you can always add it later anyway.
PASM is supposed to be nice, especially in a Gen I car with 19's. I would think the NAV would be outdated in an '08.
Definitely get a PPI, CPO car would be nice too. There are 30 CPO '08 MT on the Porsche website right now, starting at about $45k.

4 a 6-speed, you wont really need sport chrono (my opinion). PCCB's not worht it in the long run either (another opinion) ..
good luck
cheers

I am selling an 07 that is under warranty until November 30, 2011 for 34,500. It does not have the PCCB or the Sport Chrono, but with the $10,000 you saved, you could do a LOT to the car. My car needs back tires, as I was waiting for the new Michelin's to come out (tire rack has all the good back tires for this car on back order for some reason).

I'd split cost with you on the tires, and am open to negotiation.

I had an 01 996 cab...sold it and got the itch too. Purchased an 09 CS with pdk and love the car. The 996 was alot softer than the CS ...speed wise .. probably pretty close. The pdk is a quick shift for sure. I don't know about the 08 and before with tip. Can't go wrong with any Cayman. Good luck with your search.
