The Gods do not want me to have a Porsche.

The Gods do not want me to have a Porsche.
Recently I joined on this board to get some buying advice. I bended up getting a 99 Boxster and crashed it a week later.
I took it to a collision center in New Orleans called California Customs and they quoted me 14k in repairs for a car I paid 8k for. fu*k that. I went out an bought a 01 Boxster for 10k... Guess what? 2 weeks later, the engine went out in a cloud of smoke and a pool of fluids on the ground. (oil and antifreeze?)
Now, the little red devil on the right shoulder is like "You should buy a 911- they're much faster"
but then the little white angel is saying "Hey, you've got 2 fu*ked up porsches. Why don't fix one of those. Besides, you don't have the best luck with Porsches. You really want to burn another 15k?"
I don't know what the hell to do. I once replaced my headlight but I can't do body work or engine work. The engine in the 99 is perfect and the body of the 01 is perfect. I need help and the Pork technicians want to clean me out.

Sorry to hear about your luck. I don't know what your budget is, but I would sell it all and get a newer 996/997 C2S or better with decent miles on it and possibly CPO. If money is an object, then I would swap the engines out from the wrecked one to the blown up one.
Good luck with it all. Hang in there - it will be worth it.

I'm considering bidding on this Boxster S and putting my 99 Boxster engine in it. Mine is manual and this one is tiptronic- will it make a difference?
How much do you think the mechanic would charge me to put my engine in. Is it hard? Can I do it myself?

You need to back away and look at your situation. You are stuck making bad decisions. 2 crappy vehicles will not make 1 good one.
Buy what you can afford and don't get hung up on a name.

Since you are already in possession of both, it seems like the path of least resistance is swapping the '99 engine into the blown '01. Problem is, many states do not allow an older engine into a newer car and still pass smog. With many cars, it's difficult to tell what age the engine is unless the tech REALLY knows his details on the car you own.
If I remember correctly, you'll also have to contend with engine details of putting the older engine into a newer car and how it mates to the ECU. If memory serves, the '99 has a different MAP sensor and a cable-operated throttle body (to the '01's e-throttle body), both are specific to the ECU. So ... the path of least resistance may not actually be so easy.
If the '01 were crashed and the '99 had the blown engine, and living in smog-strict California, I'd put the '01 engine into the '99 in a heartbeat. Since that's not the case, I'd probably sell both cars to fund my next purchase. I don't know your financial situation, but for me that would definitely be another Porsche -- either Boxster/Cayman or 996/997.
