Springs only? Or springs plus sway bars?

After years if thinking about it, I plan to install H&R springs on my 1999 986.

Should I stop there? Or upgrade the anti-roll bars as well?

The toy is used in the warm months (CHI) for spririted driving and autocross.

Thx.

That depends on your car and your goals. If you want to do car shows, do HR springs for that "filled in wheel well" look. If you want great handling, ignore the springs.

#1 Best bang for the buck to improve handling on a 986? Add M030 rear sway bar only. Next best bang for the buck? M030 ROW kit complete. If your struts are 12 years old with 50k+ miles they are pretty well gone and due for replacement.

Do you run the complete M030 ROW system? How does it compare to stock?

My car is currently set up for competition Time Trials with PSS9s and comp sways. As I developed the car I started with sways only and the rear M030 made a big difference, front not so much. As an instructor I do about 20 track days per year and drive/ride in cars with lots of different suspension setups. My impression of different setups over the years:

Bone stock- Good predictable handling with a lot of push.

Stock with rear M030 sway- Good predictable handling with better balance, a lot less push.

Stock struts/lowering springs- A bit unpredictable with bump steer issues. Often worse than stock, possibly due to flawed setup and corner balance.

M030 ROW kit complete, pro alignment- Very balanced and precise handling, no push.

PSS9s, comp sways, pro corner balance and alignment- Very balanced and precise handling, no push, adjustable to different drivers and track conditions. Big $$$

Running on street tires I think the M030 ROW kit is every bit as good as my competition setup at about 1/3 the cost. Far far better balance and handling than lowering springs. I highly recommend it. If you run sticky R-comp tires you may need the adjust-ability of a comp suspension system.

Thx, Cajun.

Finally got the toy back from the dealer (took 2 weeks!) and the H&R springs are phenomenal. Ride quality is near stock (unlike the springs I put on my 955), stance is beast (w/ spacers), and it corners flat as sin.

I need to auto-x soon to see if I experience the push, but I know how to cure it w/ your gr8 descriptions.

As the Jets LB once said...CAN'T WAIT!
