I did spec miata awhile too... Heard the same things... "haha you drive a miata!"... I guess they don't realize that more miatas are raced every weekend than any other car.. Drive what you like and what you know are good cars... My actual friends never say anything. They know that I live, breath and make my living with cars and if I buy a miata or a Boxster, that I know what I'm talking about.

Boxster/ spyder (best handling car winner in car driver, multiple 10 best cars winner, automobile all stars, etc etc)...

 

I used to drive a miata and i can tell its really a crap. However i dont blame the owners, they got their own reason to buy it...

 

I dunno, it's seems like you want all comments to be negative. Every positive example posted, you've said could be seen as a subtle barb or jibe. "Nice car" could be sarcastic, etc. I'm not sure the world is the issue here...

 

Not true at all....just pointing out that no matter who says what there will always be an underlying factor whereby you will never know if the comment being made is genuine, derogatory, or, sly derogatory, unless you personally know the person making the said comment. Now that's hardly my problem if you can't deal with that reality, so if my pointing that out hurts then i can't be responsible for saying not only what I know, but also what appears to be what the rest of the world knows as well. And If you honestly believe that every comment you receive is going to be what that person really thinks of you and your car, then with all due respect, you are living in complete denial. So, you can blame me and others all you like but it won't change the stigma nor the comments that go along with it particularly where a male and a Boxster is concerned....end of story.

Fwiw, If it helps you at all, I'm also aware the same stigma is attached to guys that drive Audi TT's....not sure if it's the same your way?

And on the world being the issue? Well again, if you choose to live in denial then that's your prerogative however, it won't change the stigma nor the comments surrounding that stigma. So you can shoot, kick, squeal foul, abuse the messenger all you like but it won't change anything.

Anyway it seems like you're personally having a bit of a struggle with this so how bout we both just leave it on the basis we agree to disagree.

 

True. It is also a shame that this car handles wonderfully as well. I'm not sure why this is, but it is.

So TT's another casualty on a global scale eh. Interesting. I know out here the car is renown as a hairdressers or poofs car. If you are straight, you've gotta be a brave guy to own a car like this over here....either that or have a very thick skin. Mind you that first TT shape was the worst for being called a ***** mobile. It started with that first iteration and has continued on from there. TT really looks a bit like noddy's car or a little boys car so you can see how it all started. If I'm gonna allow myself to be subjected to that level of flack i'd take a Boxster any day of the week.

Edit. My understanding where these two cars are concerned is with the TT it's a 100% given you are gay, whereas with the Boxster there is at least some room for movement.

I dunno... Before deciding on the Boxster spyder I also looked at the TTRS... Among a 996 turbo/gt3, used Gtr (again), or a used Z06.

I guess some cars can be unisex and maybe more looked at as a women's car like a base Boxster auto or a base TT convertible auto, auto miata... But it can be driven by men too... I think when the car becomes a Boxster s/spyder or a TTRS or a miata manual .. Your talking something different

And yes, I have thick skin.... So far in 2 weeks, all the real comments I've gotten on the spyder have been positive

 

Agree TTRs may well attract less derogatory remarks on the basis it is more of a macho type car....although that said the TT is generally viewed as being a cream puffs car, particularly that first iteration which is a straight out pussymobile in any mans language.

Boxster spyder is again more special vehicle so probably less subjected to gay type ridicule. Dunno...I'm just quoting from what ive personally heard said over the years from various people from all walks of life...male and female....so don't shoot the messenger.

For me i'd have no problem owning a Boxster Spyder but if it came to any sort of TT i'd have to pass thanks very much....but to each his own on that.

I also think where regular Boxsters are concerned the colour/trim combo definitely has relevance in inciting derogatory remarks.
