This is not right…European Delivery
#16
@denversteve...yes I am happy with my deal, it is ridiculously awesome...I am just more upset about the Euro Delivery not being free as advertised. If they simply state it is free if you buy at MSRP and put that in all their public statements about it, I would be fine with that. It is just misleading how it is worded when it really is just another cost to me.
Personally I think it's semantics.... To offer a Euro delivery for "free" to the customer simply means the customer doesn't have to pay for it "on top" of their purchase. It says no where they didn't bury the price/cost in the price of the car.
For the record though, I'm curious. If you have to pay for your flight over there, what exactly is the $2995 price going towards? How much is hotel, food and a museum tour?

So does that mean if you take Euro delivery, it would be up to you to bring the car back to the US??
I asked my salesman (which I trust explicitly) about the Euro charge and this is what he told me...
"Euro delivery counts as 3% less of markup in the car for the dealership but you would only get a 1% discount off of the car at that point which equates to $824.20 off of MSRP so it still would cost you money as you would have to pay more than you are paying now. The only perk to euro delivery for the dealership is that we will be allocated 1 extra unit after euro delivery is complete but we are still waiting for our first extra unit."
I'm happy with my deal but I was curious.

@orangecrush
My experience with all of the dealers I dealt with is that I could pay:
MSRP
less % discount <- Variable
plus $2995
plus TT&L
In this case the best deal I could expect would be:
Invoice Price + $1
plus $2995
plus TT&L
Make sense? They basically will never eat the European Delivery fee as implied by the press release hence it is a cost to you. Since my deal put me in the dealer's danger zone from a profit perspective, they would not allow me to add the 'free' Euro delivery.
As I mentioned before, as long as Porsche is up front with this in all their public statements about it, I can live with it. Still wish it was like BMW's program which is KILLER.

I understand but my dealer made it clear to me that should someone not take the Euro deal, they only get 1% discount. (in my case, 824.00)
They don't give the entire 2995 back to you as a discount even though the dealers you said would. (I'd have to see it on paper to believe it)

This sounds exactly the way it was explained to me from a dealership, so you aren't being treated unfairly in that respect. However, they stated if you do Euro delivery you won't get as good as a deal on the car. Therefore, that euro delivery charge is profit that should be negotiated. Never bought a new Porsche without getting at least 5% off.

Do you think you’d get a 5% discount on a new model such as the 981? I’m just wondering if because it’s the start of a new model, dealers are more reluctant to offer discounts.

I agree, I am not being treated unfairly by the dealer. It really isn't the dealer I am complaining about. The dealer is simply acting accordingly within the constraints and as an independent.
Really more about the program itself and what was communicated by Porsche USA. They say it is free and it isn't.

I guess just a marketing gimmick, guy. I know you're pretty disappointed but there's also no point to keep going at it.....
Personally, I'm not sure (haven't thought about it much) I'd want Euro delivery as I'd be too tempted to wring the heck out of it on the Autobahn and quiet country roads. Hell with break-in period.... (somewhat controversial)
Good luck.

Yes, I only received 4% off for my discount. Not as much as I thought but I’m appreciative of every penny of it.

Of course the Euro Delivery is built into the bottom line of the car. It seems misleading but if you think about it in the business sense a program that previously costed the customer at the very least $4,000 for a couple days is now built into the program. Yes, the actual cost that the dealer has to pay for the program is $2,995 but it's a bit concerning knowing that they wouldn't allow you to go for the Euro Delivery. How much off MSRP did you get on the order? If you got a smoking deal on the car then I'd say use your business hat and know that Porsche is operating on a thin margin on a Boxster or Boxster S. Be happy with your deal as you are buying one of the greatest sports cars on the planet!

That may be so but Porsche sets the guidelines and if anyone thinks that a dealership is going to stray off the Porsche Golden Goose platter, they're severely mistaken.
A Porsche dealership is a luxury car dealership. They're simply not going to take a beating because they don't have to. The people that can afford to buy a Porsche are going to buy it regardless if they get a discount or not.
Like I said, I received 4% and am grateful. Had I not been offered the 4%, I would have still bought the car. (just because I had a cool salesman...)
