Recommend Supplier for Oil Change and How to Fix Road "Dings"

Love my 2007 Black on Black Cayman S which I purchased in Tampa after a year overseas

1) Who do you recommend for purchase of filter for oil change & what oil weight for a car that is now in Connecticut v Tampa.

2) Unfortunately I hit a spot on the highway where there was road resurfacing going on and I have a few chips on the front trunk. Ideas on how to touch up?

Thanks!

@caymanrgr Congrats on the purchase!! I would go with the factory recommended Mobil 0W-40 (ES2499526). With many different choices in oil filter I tend to lean towards the K&N oil filter (ES2535598), they seem to be built a little better then the rest.

Sorry for the misfortune on the highway, if you can get us the your paint color, I can source you some factory touch up paint. Afterwards possibly looking at investing in some Lamin-X Paint Protective Film (ES1871805).

Buy the filter at your local Porsche dealer. Be sure to get the drain plug seal ring and o-ring for the filter housing.

For oil, use any approved oil. Unless things have changed recently Porsche doesn't approve any 10w-40 oil.

Mobil 1 0w-40 oil works very well but there are plenty of 5w-40 and even one 5w-50 oil approved for use in these cars if you do not want to run Mobil 1 0w-40.

If you drive your car in the winter in CT you might want to use Mobil 1 0w-40 oil for Porsche recommends it if ambient temps drop low, down to IIRC -25C which is -13F. CT might see that cold of winter temps.

If you want to know which oils are approved you can visit your local dealer and ask the tech to print out a copy of the approved oils list. My tech does this for me every year or so when a new list comes out.

Or look for 'A40' on the oil bottle which means the oil is approved for use in your car's engine.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that when I first read it but I think it's just a typo.. because when you click on ECS' link it shows Mobil 1 0w-40 and not 10w-40.

Preference of oils is such a controversial topic but - as Macster said - there is a long list of approved oils. Saw the list online somewhere but I've forgotten where... OP, get 0w-40 (Euro blend) since you live in CT.

As an aside for any newbies: heed Macter's advice. He knows his stuff.

Good luck.

p.s. In the past I've found Mobil 1 0w-40 at local Wal-Marts for $6.49/quart (one of the cheapest prices I've seen). Had to go to 2 different locations (1 near work, 1 near home) as they didn't have enough.

Personally, I buy oil filters from Pelican Parts, or one of the many board sponsors here. The dealer sponsors here typically offer the kit at a relatively reasonable price. Pelican sells the oil filter for $11 - 30, including new filter, o-ring, and compression washer. As for oil, I've been using Castrol 5W40 - I typically buy that when they have sales @ Autozone, Adv Auto Parts, or Pepboys.

As for paint chip.. I've heard dr. color chip works.. though I have no first hand exp on this.

Oh yeah... Fix It (used to be on TV) works really well though I've found that it's not permanent. Just a very good short term solution.
