Boxster S versus Carrera

Boxster S versus Carrera
Read about it here: Boxster S versus Carrera: An even match?
That's what Car and Driver set out to find in this video. Obviously, the Carrera is a more powerful, dynamic car. But how does a top-of-the-line Boxster stack up against the bottom level Carrera? The Boxster isn't exactly a an afterthought anymore and the S model is legitimately fast. It also raises the question of whether or not 911 is worth it.

I am curious if it is only the tune that differs between those two engines. They are both 3.4 liters so i am assuming they are the same except some periferals and the tune...
Having a 3.4 liter 350 hp Boxster sounds very temping!

I've heard (read) that the cams and intake are different in the Boxster. And of course tuning is part of that. It's not the same 3.4 with a different tune. It does have some differences between the two engines.

well having owned 3 Boxsters and a Cayman and 3 911s I feel I can make a real comparison.I have LOVED all of my Porsches.
I currently drive a 2007 911 C2S.I traded in a 2011 Boxster S for it..The 911 is more car period. This is not to say the Boxster is a lightweight.Yes the Boxster is smaller and more nimble but the 911 is fast and handles great..I do miss the top down at times..I do miss driving a 2 seater as I feel its a "real"sports car,BUT the 911 is totally awesome..The Cayman is more of a real comparison..The Cayman is an awesome handling car...I also loved having the hatch feature..But once again the 911 is totally awesome..I could go back to any of these cars in the future..I dont track my cars but live in the country and have some amazing roads to really open up any of these cars..
I do think I would go with the Boxster S over the 911 cab..
With the boxster/cayman,They MUST be S versions or its not worth it to me..

How about 991 vs 981S? The issue here is that after the major changes on both models, they seem to have gotten lot closer... No, actually gotten equal (straight line for coupe vs roadster), according to the video and this month's paper magazine.

I think these are 2 different cars that do things in a different way..I think the boxster s is a great car for the money..
I love them all...i dont track cars but I am just offering my opinion as a person that owned both..
I have drive the new 991(base and S)..I have not yet driven the 981..
I did see a video that put the 991 and 981S against each other..the 991 won all the drag strip tests and was faster around the track..
I love the way my cayman/boxster handled..
I also love the way the 911 handles..Its just a different sensation..And like I said I am just driving around on back roads so track times are not an issue..
I dont like PDK but would get it if I was a track junkie..I also think a Cayman would be easier to drive around a track than a 911..But I do think that on certain tracks the 911 would easily beat either 987/981...BUt I dont care, cause I love them both..
I dont know why everyone always wants to compare these models..box/cayman guys feel cheater or need to validate their purchase.??.
I do wish Porsche put the same engine in all the cars but then they would all be 100k+ and noone would be driving them!!!

I really enjoyed this video, and it is clear that film makers had sufficient respect (if not love) for both cars. However, what was the point of getting the Boxster with all the driver aids, and then turning them off? (Over steer on a Boxster? ... Really?) I also agree that the Boxster should have been compared to the Cab so that you have an apples to apples match up on weight.
Still…Fun to watch!
