Porsche dealer fixed a deep scratch, MADE a deeper one [pics]
Hello all, I am just wondering if this is the typical experience with Porsche dealerships. I took my 2011 Cayman to the dealer to get a deep scratch on the front touched up (which was there when I bought it). They did a nice job on it and all I can see is a faint line where it was. However, I walked to the back of the car and discovered they made a scratch MUCH worse than the one they fixed.
My reaction, being that I love my car so deeply, was to turn around and walk away for a minute to take a deep breath and come back. They apologized and claimed that a sharp heavy object may have fallen on the back of the car by mistake. Yet I was wondering why they were giving me the keys to drive it away in the first place if that was the case (as if they were wishing I wouldn't notice). I'm not trying to be accusatory or anything, just a bit distraught. And I know accidents happen. So they said they would take care of it and sent me on my way back with my loaner car again (I live 45 minutes away). Meanwhile I inquired about tint and caliper painting. For the inconvenience, they said they'd take 100$ off the $1550 caliper job and some small amount off the $375 tint job.
Is this the typical way of a Porsche dealership? I would expect that after something like this happens they would ask "what can we do to make you happy."
And I am aware that that is a blasphemous amount of money to get calipers painted, but my warranty is gone if I don't do it through them.
I don't know. After dropping so much money on this car that I love so much, I thought they would be a little more apologetic about leaving an extremely deep scratch on the rear end of my car that was perfect before than simply a small discount on some modifications.

All I can say is lucky you caught before leaving the lot and also that they didnt say it was like that upon drop off.
I can't count how many times I've picked up one of my cars to see damage that wasn't there initially and the shop state it was. I make it a point to do a walk around every time now but sometime it feels weird to force some good shops to do it

Wow - just terrible. I'm sure you know, but the dealer likely outsourced the work to a body shop. Some schlep takes your car there, drops it off, they work on it, return car to dealer. Lots can go wrong there. Someone effed up.
Years ago, dealer had my car for some service. Someone must have driven it under a tree with low hanging branches. My hood had @5 noticeable scratches. I pointed it out upon pickup. They stood there like deer in headlights...opps - sorry. I had them work on it 2x and it still was not right. In the end it seemed silly to escalate to a respray so I ended up taking it back and have lived with the light scratches. Sucks. but they will likely never get it perfect. At least get something out of it to compensate for their mess up.

Unfortunately, yes, in my experience, it is common. I used to feel guilty requesting a walk around, as it implies I don't trust them. But I don't care anymore what they think. I do a walk around before I leave it and when I pick it up. I have had seat damaged, interior damage, paint scratches, multiple times at multiple Porsche dealers. It's just sad. Sorry for your misfortune.

+1 I always do a walk around now even if it's my DD. I always thought it was weird at first but, mistakes happen and I understand that, I just hope they tell me first before I find it. Which in your case it sounds like they knew about it before hand, ether way their taking care of it now and giving you a few discounts it sounds like.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Recently, my Marine son, was working on a rifle in the garage. It fell off a table and left a 7 inch gouge in the bumper of my 981. Tried to compound it out, but the gouge was just too deep. Brought it to my local dealer (Reeves, in Tampa, FL), and for $247 it looks like it came off the showroom floor. I was thinking it would be closer to a grand to fix. This is my third Porsche. Although I think the sales guys are overly slick, I have never had an issue with the service staff.
