Porsche Boxster: Extreme Weight Reduction for a Good Cause

Hey, folks, Palmer here from the front-page editorial team with a video you might enjoy discussing.

If you're not familiar with the Lykan Hypersport, you may remember the crazy sequence in the (Fast and the) Furious 7 where the heroes escaped certain death by jumping a rare supercar between two Dubai buildings. Said supercar was the $3.4M Lykan Hypersport. To capitalize on the success of Furious 7, Universal Studios produced a short-lived arena tour called Fast and the Furious Live where a kit-car version of the Hypersport performed several stunts. After the show tanked, Universal auctioned off the various vehicles and many of them fell into the hands of YouTubers.

One such YouTuber, frequent VINWiki guest Casey Putsch, currently has Fast and the Furious Live Lykan Hypersport kit car. Putsch is collaborating with 6Speed Online vendors like Avalon King Ceramic Coating to resurrect the battered kit car as part of Putsch's Genius Garage student mentorship racing team. Here's a little more detail on them:

Genius Garage forms a racing team out of a select group of the brightest and most driven college students. The students come from academic backgrounds ranging from engineering to fine art, music, business, and journalism. The racing team provides a crucial “vehicle” for the student’s experiences, as few professional worlds are as demanding and competitive as racing.
The 2007 Porsche Boxster S in the above video will serve as the project's new platform and, after losing 700 pounds of body weight, it looks like one hell of a ride. Here's hoping Putsch and his students build an amazing Hypersport that honors the loss of this Porsche Boxster S.

What do you think? Do you love it? Does it break your heart? Would you ever turn a Boxster S into a project car?
