I'd take 986S over S2k. Between 987S and S2k, there is no comparison. S2k is pretty basic and torqueless. You really have to pay attention and drive well to get any speed out of it. If you just cruise around, it feels like a Civic.

The character of the 2 cars is similar, but not the same. Every time I get in my S2000 it puts a big smile on my face. Of course, for an extra $40,000 I would rather have the Cayman S

Loved my S2000, pretty hard to live with as a DD but a pure joy to drive. I really like the new Boxster to. Instantly at home drifting through corners and much more user friendly motor.

For $30-32K Honda is in a league of their own and the shifter is the best of any car I've ever driven at any price.

Because I can afford it, have to go with a Boxster, but if you are on a budget you are hardly settling with the S2K.

i dont know about which will win drag race, but on a track, boxsters S is NOT faster than s2000 given equal driver, it's really a very tight race. s2k is lighter than box. the motor is as durable if not more so.

you may have missed the pt. s2k's motor is actaully very refined and some of the technolgy in it is way ahead of porsche. and it is inteded to be loud. but if you are not used to shift every gear at 8000rpm, s2000 doesn't work very well. it's meant to be driven at read line EVERY shift.

I have driven both the S2k and Boxster S and even driven both supercharged Boxster’s (2.5 and 3.2). I will say that the s2k just didn’t seem to satisfy the urge for me. Hearing the whistle of the supercharger did. I do love the fact that you get to shift so freaking high!

We are comparing stock cars. S/C and Turbo S2ks can be on a different league performance wise. But even the stock S2k is very demanding and not for the unskilled driver...

My wife and I test drove a boxster S, an s2k, and an elise. Out of the three we will probably go with the s2k. The elise was a lot of fun, but it's not something I can drive in regular shoes. And the brakes suck. The boxster had power and comfort, but it was almost too plush. We liked the s2k best because it's a lot of fun to drive and has all the creature comforts we want without being too soft. And there's lots of modding options.

at the limit on a track, S2k is very unforgiving.

I don't know which Boxster S you are refering. But the new Boxster S (987) is clarly faster than the S2K. If you are talking about the old Boxster then I agree with your statement.
