Mr. Officer,
They are currently working through the last bit of the interface between the new electronics and the older Motronic CanBuss in the car. As I've said in the past, they are extremely diligent about not missing anything. Believe it or not, one of the larger items remaining is the cruise control. They don't want to turn over a car that is missing any functionality at all. Kinda par for the course with the Germans, don't you think?
Hope to have the car back within a month or so.
Dave

Well, after a lot of tinkering, my car is back in Sunny, but very cold NJ.
I picked it up at Schneider Nelson Porsche yesterday and I've had a $hit-eating grin on my face ever since.
When I first started the car (I had yet to drive the car) it spooled up sooo fast with the lightweight flywheel. It sounded awesome!
While I spoke to the folks about my wife's Audi, I let the car warm up (it was about 15deg F).
When I finally returned, she was beginning to warm up, so I took it a little easy (maybe I'm too old school?).
The Sport clutch along with the light flywheel make starting off a little tricky. I'll just have to get used to the feathering. Not that this is in any way a CGT, but I now understand the learning curve those folks had to go through with the small flywheel arrangement on them.
Now to the good stuff: I've driven in traffic and I've been to triple digits in a hurry. The acceleration is incredible! I can hear the Variocam Plus kick in mid range. The whole sound of car just goes from Boxster Sport to Beast in a hurry! This is the car that I had dreamed of when I set off on this adventure in '03.
Not the kick that I had in the chipped 996TT, but close. Also, the linearity of the torque and hp (geek statement) vs. the TT makes it soo much more predictable. Of course, keeping the tires from spinning has been a challenge a couple of times.
I love this car and I'm so thankful of the folks at FVD for making this a painless project. (Not a plug, but sincerity.)
*****, Thank you my friend. I do appreciate the attention to detail and the commitment to getting it done right vs. half-assing it. Yes, we would all have liked it to take a little less time, but we all kept in mind that this was a unique project. But in the end....very satisfying. I can't wait to drop the top when it gets a bit warmer.
Vielen Dank!

Congrats Dave! I don't think I could have dealt with all that waiting, but glad to hear it was worth it in the end.. Hopefully I'll see you at one of the spring events, and can get a ride in that beast.

Thanks guys. I only had a day with the car before we ran up to VT to ski for a few days. I can't wait for some more seat time. It may have to wait until the snow stops, however....... .
Officer,
I look forward to getting together with the group when the season changes.
Evan,
Thanks for the well wishes. I'll be calling you about the brakes in a few weeks, I'm sure. ***** was talking to me about the GT3 settup. Let me know when they go on sale.
Josh,
Good to hear from you buddy. To date, the wait has been worth it. You should hear this F%cker spool up. That might be your next purchase.
Maybe it'll keep you away from that Z06 you have your eye on.

Todd,
No thinking to this. This is the single best car mod or purchase I've ever done. I wish that I could better describe the roar that comes out of the car now when you put your foot into it......it's intoxicating.
I do believe, however, that it is the combination and balance of all the options, ie. headers, cats, lightweight flywheel, and sport clutch that makes a big difference too. It is just set up sooo well with the 3.8L motor.
I just got back from travelling for the last three weeks. The weather took a shift for the better, and I dropped the top today. Besides replacing the meats (tires) today, I must have run 20 errands just to be able to get into the car and drive. Mannn.....what a blast.
Josh,
I know now how you felt when you got your car back from IA with the Supercharger.......

Yepp yepp yepp but what do you think about first gear???? Is it a joke now or what! I was telling guys last week in Vegas that at any speed in 1st, if you step on it they are turning over....If you hit 2nd hard you can keep the tires going till about 40-45 MPH....I think you and I may have the best drift cars on the road.....That would be great if winning a drift contest was not like kissing your sister.

Damn you, Josh! I much prefer NA, but the conversion is at least 26k, whereas the supercharger (which I have some doubt about longevity of the motor when tracking the thing) is only 8k or so, plus installation - that's a huge difference for about the same output, don't you think?? If all were equal, I'd go 3.8l all day long, but...

Well if we are talking "if's" I would rather a GT3 motor in my car so take that..... ....I like the idea of a NA motor but really Todd my car runs (as I knock on wood) GREAT. It is a nice kit and runs strong and I beat the hell out of it running it against a 997TT (did well)and Vince and his GT700 GT2 (not so good)
After all since you won the rally to Vegas why do you need to go faster....

how did you do against the 997TT? did you win?
how much rear wheel HP is your car putting down? what is the torque curve look like? do you have a dyno chart?
what is your car weighing these days?
