anyone have experience powder coating rims?
i've been inspired by all the photos of white boxster/caymans with black rims and polished lips and was wondering if anyone actually had their rims powdercoated this way instead of purchasing them already done... any advice? btw i have these rims: http://www.rh-wheels.com/index.cfm?P...tail&PID=84680

I had rims on my old GTI powder coated. They were completly coated however. It lasted forever on the rims. They never chipped by rocks or road debris or anything they were really good. My lips and everything were completly coated (where the rim takes the most abuse from rocks and stuff) and they were mint afte 3 yeras of me driving.
I dragged the car at the track every year with the rims on the back and slicks on the front and during burn outs and everything still no chips on the back. I probablly made 200 passes a year down the drag strip and 10k a year on the road with no problems.

just an FYI, when the powdercoating is baked onto the wheel is makes the alloy brittle. powdercoated wheels have broken when tracked/auto-x. there supposedly is a special lo-temp powder coat for this, but not sure how common it is. basically do it at your own risk

there was a discussion on this on renntech, and i said the same thing that they might get brittle, but as they explained there is really no way this can happen..so yea, if i have time i will do mine in black, but no time now
