Cool Race Seats for DE/Street 2001 Boxster

While I am waiting, and waiting... for GT3 Seats to be in stock again, does anyone have any good alternatives, also for possible less money? Looking for black leather to put in a stock Boxster that will primarily be used for the track and to fit 6-point Schroth harnesses and a future Hans device, but also for street and driving to/from the track.

If you aren't hung up on leather, how about Sparco Evo seats? They come in 3 widths last time I checked, although fitting the 3's might be impossible. I have the 2's in my 2000S and I use it for daily drving and the track. They are more difficult to ingress and egress, but any seat with high bolsters will b. Once in, though, they are more comfortable than the stock full power seats (at least for me).

Sparco Evo, Sparco Corsa, Sparco Evo L
Recaro, OMP

decision is based on your height, weight, waist width etc and of course personal perference with brand, color etc

Let me know, I have them all available with hardware

@ Millaracing guy,

I tried to look up seats on your site and it's not working. I go under 986 Boxster/S and whatever I click on goes blank and that's it.

Did you happen to weight your old seats compared to your new ones? How much was the harness, mounting kit other hardware? Was the install hard?

IIRC, the stock full-power seats were 62 lb each and the Sparco's with BK brackets, sub-bars and GT3 manual sliders were something like 27 lb each. I'll have to research some old stuff to see if I can find the actual numbers.

the hardest part of the install was removing all of connections for the power seat. You have to remove the door sill stuff and know where to insert the hex key to remove the drivr's side trunk latches. The rest is quite easy.

@ bruinbro

What model Sparco seats are those? Do the mounting brackets require drilling?

They are Evo 2, also known as Evo L. The Brey Krause brackets do not require drilling as long as you mount them to Porsche manual sliders. BK also has different brackets if you want to use Sparco sliders; I don't know how good the fitment is. My seat setup was completely bolt-in.

Thanks for the input!

Here a link with the weight of the Sparco seats that you may want to add to your favorites.

@ bruinbro,

Where did you get the Brey Krause mounting bracket from? I can't seem to get prices from their site.

I think I bought them from someone on the Boxster Racing Board. You can check with parts stores that carry BK stuff, usually they are the same price.

Don't know how much you're looking to spend but there are quite a few knock off GT3 seats on e-Bay for ~$1,500. A simple e-Bay search will return a lot of results.

J-Rad, 986Jim & others:
Thanks for your input; however since I may be going into Super Solo for PBOC, requiring race suit, etc. I want to sure to get seats which are approved for such use. I'll definitely give it some thought before I make a final decision. Cheers..
