Driving roads in alberta

Does anyone know of some good roads for driving in Alberta or more specifically Edmonton and area? Got to find some new roads, the ones I have been driving are getting boring

One of the best is the David Thompson Highway (Hwy 11) from Rocky Mountain House to the parks (we'll be hitting that one on the 28th - you should join us!!!).

There's a few decent roads down near Calgary (Kananaskis and such), and the Miette Hot Springs road (also a target on the 28th).

Highway 40 from Hinton through Grande Cache to Grande Prairie is a decent drive when the road surface isn't in bad shape (which it unfortunately is a lot of the time due to heavy truck traffic), but it's a fair jaunt away.

Other than that, I'm not aware of too many really good roads in the Edmonton area - part of the downfall of being in the prairies.

Maybe one of the longer term Edmontonians knows of some secret routes...

I am on the constant lookout as well. A decent one is north of Edmonton - going thru Gibbons on H28 towards Boyle. Certains days it is insane from Fort Mac traffic, others is dead quiet. Sometimes its crawling with cops, other times, it is not. But the asphalt is smooth and is not all completely straight.

I will keep my eyes open and post up updates.

Yah there aren't too many decent roads around Edmonton. Highways just seem to get chewed up far too quickly with our weather.

It might not be much help for you guys in Edmonton, but for us further south, I love the 1A west to Canmore, back east on the 1, south on the 40 through Kananaskis to 541 to Longview, 22 and back north to Calgary... fantastic drive!

Agreed. I have taken that drive many times. It is amazing. A little too far to go for an evening rip though.

Ok. I went up to Fort Mac on some business and remembered a decent road. I used to live up there and took every imaginable highway up there. If you guys are interested in a decent drive on some smooth (mostly) pavement. Not as twisty as a mountain road. Cops on the road - sometimes, but not heavy. Most weekdays it is quite low.

Edmonton up to Bon Accord, up to Red Water and to Boyle. South from Boyle towards Fort Sask.

From GoogleMaps, it says 3 hours 57 mins. Some straight sections to see what your car can do.
