Anyone know how old the recall letter can be? Had the seller get one from the dealer in mid-November and will be importing in mid-January when the title arrives.

They won't accept that, the recall letter needs to be current at the time of importing the vehicle.

When I called the RIV office last May, they told me that it's only good for 30 days.

Good luck,
Tim

Sort of related to this thread and think I know the answer.

Do Porsche dealers in the US give you access to their cheap money (1.9% financing) being a Canadian resident?

Danbury Porsche has some interesting inventory.

Thanks

Not unless you have an American address and some sort of credit history in the U.S

That's what I thought, I am negative on both.

Too bad.

Rates seem to be sitting at 7.63% from Porsche dealers here, DFC has 5.99 through banks. Drastic difference compared to US. Haven't tried sourcing on my own yet.

My P-car will arrive in Blaine next week and it is CPO'd with just over 4 years of total warranty remaining. I bought it from a Porsche dealer in Texas and they are supplying the recall letter. In order for warranty to be valid in Canada to I still have to fork over $500 to the dealer? I can get it insured without setting foot in at the local dealer, but if my warranty isn't valid I guess I have no choice. The Texas dealer already updated my info in the database and have already got an email from Porsche of Canada to participate in a survey.

No need to pay the $500 when in Canada, that is what the dealers charge you for the required "recall" letter but if your dealer in Texas is giving you one then your good!! Warranty is good throughout North America so no problem there also.
Enjoy!!

Thanks for all the help guys, imported a 2010 C4S yesterday and I'm having a difficult time wiping the smile off my face. I'll post up some pics on the weekend.
I got my recall at no charge from the Porsche dealer I purchased the vehicle from, but came across this if anyone's in need of one. $10 seems very reasonable and includes an option list.

Importing a Porsche into Canada

I've imported over 190 Porsches since 2007. I've purchased new ones, transferred CPO's, done recalls ect ect ect. Basically there isn't much I can't help you out with so feel free to ask!

I just brought in a 997.2
It was a breeze. I didn't have to bring the car to the dealer. Tthe Mercedes dealer whom i bought the car from got the recall letter in 5 minutes from the Porsche dealer that org. sold the car.
When the car arrived at the border i paid the import fee and the gst. The Feds gave me the RIV paperwork.
Went to have the Fed and Prov. inspection... Too easy on a 2011,
Last step was a quick trip to the Quebec SAAQ to pay my PST and get the licence plate.
The car is now plated and sitting safely in my garage.

Hi.. I know this thread is an older thread. Im interested in getting a 997.1 or 997.2 that I wanted to import into Canada from the US. I was wondering if I could get some help in where to look for 997. What are some gotchas to look out for. Example purchasing flooded cars. Contacts that do the PPI for you. I may just limit my search to a city that I may have a reputable mechanic do the PPI.
