US Import: Insurance to drive the car back from US.

Hello Guys,
I will be importing a 997 next week from the states. The car will be transported from Dallas, TX to Sumas, WA border by truck. I will then pick up the car at the border, do all the export/import paper work, and drive it home.
I know that i have to get the binder insurance from ICBC, then buy the insurance permit at a DMV office in WA. The thing i am not really sure is where to buy the permit in US. Can i buy it at any DMV office? or some other stores close to the border will have it?

This is my second time importing a car, but last time the car was trucked home.
Thanks alot!

you should be able to purchase a temp. driving permit at the dmv if the car doesn't come with plates.

Yes, you should be able to pick up a trip permit from the DMV offices - I think the closest to the Border would be Bellingham.

A few tips:
- Make sure that you reach the US Export office by 3:30pm (Mon - Fri) - not the 4:00pm time as indicated in a few places! I thought it was 4:00pm and just managed to squeak in a couple of minutes before 3:30pm.
- Once you get finish off paying your taxes & duty on the Canadian side, walk across the street to the RIV offices and finish off your RIV paperwork. You'll have your Form 2 emailed to you in the next day!
