I've been busy. Mods to my Cayenne Turbo

Just got this Cayenne Turbo after trading my Supercharged C4S and I decided to get busy. I still need to decide on my new wheels but I thought I would share some of the progress.

2005 Black/Black Cayenne Turbo
  • I replaced the extra high beam bulb, the cornering light and the fog light bulbs with PIAA bulbs. Very nice add.
  • Added Techart Headlight covers - I wasn't too sure about this at first but I really like them now.
  • Porsche Silver Grill insert - I know some prefer black but I think this really compliments the silver trim and it looks different than most everyone else.
  • Porsche Wheel Arches - Painted black. Not quite as aggressive as other wheel arches but a nice touch.
  • Porsche Sill Trim - Painted Black These are hard to see in the poor pics but they really help form an aggressive stance and lower the posture of the rig.
  • Clear side markers
  • Silver Hood Crest
  • Lowering Links - Nice alternative to $2000 lowering module. Lowered about 1.5"
  • Miltek Exhaust - Deeper throaty sound that has no resonance and puts a smile on my face.
  • Cat Bypass Pipes - same as above
  • EVO Intake - Improved breathing helps with power. A lil noisy but not too bad.
  • GIAC ECU Flash - WOW. uh... yeah. WOW
  • MoBridge iPod integration. - Very cool listening to my iPhone taking calls through my bluetooth headset.
  • Work performed by my friends and Board Sponsors MAXRPM Motorsports
Not much more to do. New wheels will be on by the end of the month. I will replace rotors with cross-drilled when I replace the pads soon.

I love this rig. Of course I miss my screaming highly modified 911 but I needed more space. I got tired of my golf clubs riding in the front seat. This turbo flat out gets up and goes. I havent checked it but I suspect 0-60 in 4.7 which is as fast as my 911 was before I modded it. I think I will be a Cayenne owner for some time to come. More and better pics in the near future when I get the wheels on.

I have FVD bypass pipes and it is pretty aggressive sounding on the outside but totally quite on the inside. I do have the double insulated glass so I am not sure if that makes a difference. BTW, I have a 1 month old so I am very sensitive to the sound levels too.

Thanks everyone.

The exhaust system (by-pass pipes and Miltek exhaust) are actually not as loud as I hoped. Just a nice rumble. It might sound louder from behind me but in the cockpit it is just a nice rumble. I don't think it would adversely affect children at all. I have 2 year-old twins.

As for rims, I think I am going with 21"' instead of 22". I want a compromise between ride quality and looks and I think I will go with the Porsche engineers on this one. I am considering the BBS RXII offered by Speedware for $3300. They look pretty tight. I am also looking at the new Porsche 21" offered by Wheel Enhancement for $3100.

Photos courtesy of Wheel Enhancement.

Help me decide.

BBS RX II

Porsche 21"

Id go with 22" TA's or HRE's

I was going to go with with 22"s on my Denali, went with 26" instead!!! Never looked back

Good job, Capt. BBS is nice. But IMHO, that style looks too busy on a Cayenne. Of the two choices you threw out, I think the OEM 21" looks cleaner. How about TAs?

Did you get the resonated Milltek system or the non-resonated? I got the resonated version at first. It made almost no difference in sound. I then switched out the resonated pipes with non-resonated pipes. Now it sounds much better. As you say, not loud but a nice rumble. I'm wondering what it would sound like with bypass pipes.

Also, can you elaborate on your "wow, uh...yeah, wow" comment regarding the GIAC flash? How much of the hesitation did it address?

The silver grill insert was an easy install. The two side pieces just pop out. The upper and lower center are secured with 3M tape and need to be carefully pulled out. I used a piece of hard plastic to get between the insert and the bumber and carefully slid/pried it loose. Then you scrape off the old tape, clean it with some rubbing alcohol and apply new tape. This is incidentally the easiest way to get to the hood crest.

Congradulations on the modifications, I would personally go for 21" BBS wheels those are lovely. Why don you get the aerokit fron and rear valances and paint the side mirrors silver/black like the Porsche exclusive option ?
