DIY Front Brakes/Rotors "reflections"
So I did the Brake pads and rotors on Sat.
OE rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Got rotors, bolts and sensors from Suncoast (Jeff) for a great price.
1. Really easy, less than 1 hour for the first side and 1/2 hour for the second.
2. Caliper bolts @ 200lb-ft with NO loctite. I considered some blue but didn't see it recommended anywhere so kept them clean. Used 20" Breaker bar to break the old bolts, quite easy actually. 200lb-ft isn't that bad.
3. Brake Pad pin bolt @ 25lb-ft
4. Wish I would have bought new spring clips, they were covered in brake crap.
5. Wipe rotors really well with brakekleen right before throwing it up onto the hub.
6. Used old pads to push the pistons in, screwdriver between old rotor and old pad.
7. Sensor connector to wire harness uses tricky clip to lock in. First one came off easy, second one took quite a bit of convincing.
8. Sounded like 12 year old rusty schwinn bike for first 2 or 3 miles.
9. Bed in per Hawk, 10 moderate stops from 35 and 3 hard stops from 45.
Cool 15 minutes, avoid high speed hard braking for next 100 miles.
Can't believe that Stealer wanted like $500 labor to do it !

Good to see 6speeders into actually working on their rides. Just think for every 1 person who actually does it on their own, probably 100 people are willing to pay that 500 in labor. That’s how service depts. at the dealers make money. BTW very few shops actually torque down those caliper bolts. Most just gun them off and on.
