08 S / 08 base or older TT?
Hi guys, I am a fairly new member here and also a 986 owner. I have been looking for a Cayenne for my wife for awhile now. Not too educated and would like some tips and input.
My wife wants a newer 08 model Cayenne. I want someone else to take the depreciation hit though so we want slightly used. We test drove the new 08 models as well as the previous gen.
We will use it for mostly city driving and the occasional trips to the mountains to hit the slopes.
My question is, what should we pick up? An 08 S, 08 base model or a fairly used S or TT? If we stretch it we can probably pick up an 08 S but if its all about bragging rights I don't really want to spend the extra 15-20K on the S badge and extra power. The old V6 model is underpowered but when I drove the 08 V6 it seems to be adequate.
Opinions or comments? Thank you

When you drive a porsche, you want to feel the power when you drive, so buying a v6 will make you feel so bad in the future, you will regret that you didn't buy the S one. I suggest you to buy the 08 one, because it will get even impossible to sell the previous models since porsche is changing the cayenne models now.

I know what you mean. I have a base boxster and am now searching for an S model.
However the newer 08 V6 does seem to be pretty peppy. I can't say the same for the pre 08's though. I just need to justify the price difference as the extra 15-20K can go towards my boxster upgrade where it will count even more.
I do admit that I am afraid that I might end up getting that "what if" feeling if I get the V6.

Hey angman,
Personally, I would go for a used TT, just because to me the power difference is huge. I have an 04 TT and this week have been driving a 08 Cayenne since mine is in the shop and WOW is their a difference in everything. It just isn't the same car! I know that their is a drastic price difference when new but I think getting a TT is definitely the way to go.
I would recommend driving both models, a used TT and a new cayenne and see if it really makes that much of a difference to you. I personally would never think of going back to a regular Cayenne after experiencing/owning a TT. I just think that the Cayenne is way too heavy of a vehicle to have a little V6 in it.

Believe me or not, a 04 CTT and 08 CS does not have a HUGE performance difference. I have a 911 turbo too, but when you buy a cayenne, you start to love it because of the back seats and the ability to put 5 people in this high performance car. Other than that, it's not like an SUV, it's more designed like a luxury car. Concept is different than a sports car. That's why you should consider a high performance Cayenne, since your boxster will not satisfy your need.

08 S.
I have been in the same situation and this is the best decision (we felt) that we have made. S has enough power and nothing beats the new car as far as the warranty...and the new car smell...
Seriously, can you imagine the repair cost if something goes wrong on an used Porsche? Not to mention some ppl on here already have a few things gone wrong with the 08 models...

Seriously, if you opt for the TT, make sure you set aside some money for extended warranty.

Thanks cellg8. That is the reaosn why I am leaning towrds an 08 model Plus the subtle styling changes are nice. I don't think I really want to have to worry about maintenance issues on a 04 CTT.
Now my real decision is between the Base 08 or the S. 15-20K difference in price is pretty significant. Any other owners want to chime in? Would really appreicate the V6 owners opinions.
Thanks

Angman,
Besides the power, the other reason I chose the S mainly because of the 'silver-rings around the gauges'. I know it sounds silly but I hate looking at the base model gauges and think I'm in a 4Runner or something. Seriously, if you already want to fork out that much for a SUV, might as well just fork out a bit more and get a S....especially if you finance it, just build that extra cash into financing..it's not by too much.
Once we got the S...the torque itself just blew us away by far already...

08S,
I bought the 08 and it does feel peppy with the Sport button on. However, at times I do think if I could do it again I would have got the S. Either way, you can't go wrong and you will enjoy the Cayenne.

I would definitely go for a 08, and not a 04 TT. Like racer 65 mentioned, you will be spending a lot of money maintaining the car since tehre is no warranty.
whether 08S or V6, most people here will opt for S since we all love the power. But if yo ufeel there is enough power on the new 08 V6 and like to save 415-20K, then go with your guts. You want to be comfortable with the payment and enjoying the car, not worrying the payment and working like a dog for the payment.

I was in the same boat as you are a few months ago...I was originally going to get an 08 CS but decided to check out used CTTs...after researching about 3-4 hundred Cayennes, I finally bought an 04 CTT with 35k miles on it...it was in excellent condition and I got it for $39k...I think the CTT is definitely the way to go and if your patient, you will find great deals on used CTTs...they are just so much more fun to drive than the S...not that the S is bad..I just think it's worth it to go for the turbo..plus you will save money.
Side note - I bought the Mercury Platinum bumper to bumper extended warranty...I had some issues which needed attention after getting the vehicle and it was completely covered by the warranty company...a small leak in the tranny could wind up costing $3k or more to fix..so make sure you buy a warranty if you buy used...it's worth every penny.

From what I have read you are better off with an 08 CS. You will like the power delivery and not be left for wanting too much more. You mention you like the subtle changes so that has already made you decision to move to the 08's. The big hurdle for you seems to be an S or Non-S. Well I think if you are patient you can find the right 08 S for a good price.
Be patient and it will reward you Good luck!!
