Cayenne TT trip to Mammoth- a BLAST

Drove the 300 miles from LA to Mammoth this weekend for a bit of fresh pow-pow boarding.
This was the first road trip since buying the CTT and all I have to say is FUN FUN FUN! What a great car for long drives. The heated seats ROCK.

It's really hard to remember that this is a truck and not a sports car, great handling and high-speed driving. Passing cars was a riot. We were playing "mission control"- Hit gas pedal at 80 and rocket-launch to 120 for some mind-blowing passing of cars. Made the 5-hour drive feel much much shorter.
Only downside was the 14.5 mpg going there and 16.9 mpg coming back... but then I was driving 85-90 most of the way.

Here's a pic of my CTT seeing it's first snow. It was treated to a thorough 2-hour cleaning / waxing upon arrival back home .

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, the Cayenne Turbo is the ultimate daily driver and is very comfortable in long trips. I really cant see my self driving anything else than a Cayenne for everyday use.

Cayenne is the best car I ever drove, if I am to compare the snow performances of the cars. Cayenne handles the best compared to Mercedes Benz ML series and GL series. I also drove R series on snow too. Cayenne somehow handles it the best. I drive my Cayenne most of the time on snow because of Michigan's weather conditions and I don't feel like driving on snow, thanks to the technology of Cayenne.

Trip was a blast!!! Car rides SUPER on the 20's.. Yokohama Parada Spec-X run- flat tires, 275/40 all around. smooth, not bumpy, not harsh. better cornering with the 20's especially at high speeds.

I just got a new set of wheels / tires so my current wheels / tires are now officially "for sale". tires have 8/10 tread on them, two wheels are mint and two have minor edge curb rash from prev owner (cant see it from 15ft away). I was quoted $110 to fix both wheels (total price) and they can be fixed on the car. Mobile wheel repair specialists are easy to find- they service the dealerships.

anyway, if interested make offer / PM.

Looks like you guys are having plenty of fun in in the snow! Just curious, how do you deal with chains on your Cayennes? Never, front-only, rear-only, or all around? Thanks!

Chains?? We don't need no steeenkiiing chains!

no seriously, I have no idea about that yet. Mammoth is really good about keeping the roads clear. Anyone put chains on their Pepper or just roll up there with snow / all season tires?

Actually, those pics are from a couple months back. I have spike spider chains which I used on the rears. Next time though, I'll put them up front as i still lost some directional control on icy steep grades.

I always try to use chains especially because these special chains are really quick to install/remove (we're talking < 1 minute) per tire.

FYI, I have 20" oem sport technos and toyo proxes st tires.

Oh so that was YOU pulled over as I was passing by @ 90? (LOL - J/K)

Yeah I drove Friday as well. There were a lot of CHP out, surprisingly, so I did my best to keep it at 85.
Sorry to hear about the ticket, but I'm sure the good snow conditions made up for it- Post those pics!!

Where did you stay? We tried out the new Westin Monache right by the villiage Gondola. I highly recommend it, very nice suite rooms, full gym and outdoor jacuzzi, and everyone at the hotel is so damn NICE. Full heated underground parking as well so the Pepper stayed toasty all weekend. They are pet friendly (no added charge) so we brought along our cool little JRT- He loves snow!
They even put a doggie bed and set of bowls in the room, along with a bag of treats. They do late checkout to 1:30pm. Good service!

We stayed at Viewpoint Condos right behind Nevado's. It was about a block away from the Gondola. Westin sounds real nice especially if they are pet friendly. We had to leave our dogs at home but I bet the labs would have tons of fun in the snow.

Can you believe how windy sunday was! And it was snowing pretty hard too!

Yeah! we woke up at 8am ready to hit the lifts and it was snowing so hard I couldn't see 30 ft off the balcony! LOL
We were contemplating not going, but it started clearing up a bit by 10ish. On top of that we ran into a skier in the elevator coming back from the slopes... and he gave us his lift ticket! So, hard to not go with one free $80 ticket in hand.. heh
Turned out to be pretty good, stayed mostly at the lower lifts and Chair 9.

The pet thing is really easy with them. all they have you do is sign a damage waiver saying you'll be responsible for any pet-related damages. No big. They even hand out dog treats in the lobby. Valet parking is complimentary, no extra $ - although I had to teach the valet how to use keyless entry / drive.. His comment when he pulled the car up for us? "Wow this thing must be REALLY fun to drive!" .. he has no idea..
