Question Pricing

HELLO everyone I am very interested in purchasing a new 08 cayenne soon. I am looking at the base model in black with options: sunroof, H.I.D.s, PASM, and heated seats. Just curious on how much i can expect to pay OTD. IF anyone has any ideas i would appreciate it .

I think that your biggest problem will be finding a V6 with PASM. that's pretty rare. as far as an OTD price, it will depend on what else the car has on it, as they can still vary quite a bit.

Would it be possible to order a cayenne exactly how you want it since it is hard to find a base model with PASM

The best bet for the configuration you want is to order it. I have a V6 with PASM and when they went looking for it there was only the one I purchased and a black one. Best of luck

I think you'll need to order it (and will probably be an '09 model). Production for '09s begins in May or June. The few V6's that come with PASM would probably have more other extra-cost stuff than you'd want. Do you want Tiptronic or manual? You'll absolutely need to special order if it is manual (and expect to be asked for a hefty deposit, since dealers are reluctant to order such a vehicle...if at all).

I initially wanted a 2008 V6 with PASM (and 6-speed manual) and tried to get an April build slot, but couldn't. Then I drove a 6-speed GTS (OMG...even better than I imagined!) and decided that was the way to go. My V6 as spec'd was so loaded that it wasn't that much cheaper than a moderately-equipped GTS.

Best wishes on your quest.

I read on other message boards that you can get 8-10% off on MSRP. Is that true?

I am planning to get a Cayenne in October with a MSRP of $56000 and invoice price of $50,000. Any idea if there are any discounts being offered to dealer? Here in Atlanta we have only two dealers.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that there are no factory-to-dealer incentives, nor does Porsche have a dealer "holdback" (extra money that enables dealers to sell at or below invoice price). On Mercedes, for instance, there is a holdback of 3% (so on a $60,000 "at invoice" deal, they'd still be making about $1,800). You're not going to find that at Porsche.

It seems that V6s are in fairly short supply, so I'd be surprised if you could get 10% off. I guess it depends on how badly they want to move the stock. But since 2009 model year production is starting...who knows? I think a discount of 6%-8% might be more realistic, but don't be shocked if they won't even do that. It seems to vary greatly in different metro areas.

Let us know!

Thanks Pugman.

I am coming out of a BMW lease and have gotten used to not paying anything for maintenance. Can others chime in as to what do they typically pay over a three year period?

I guess there will be a minimum of three oil changes over the three year lease period so that would be $600 in total. Definitely one brake pad change at 20,000 which would cost me $1700. Maybe a wiper blade change and one-two alignment (I don't know how much those would be). Maybe once in three years one might have to schedule a complete inspection which the dealer told me would cost $570 (it would include oil change).

I am looking at $3000-$3600 as maintenance cost. I will appreciate if somebody can contribute their experience/knowledge. I am on a tight budget and am trying to figure out all costs before going in for a second test drive.

"Tight budget" and "Porsche" may not be the best bedfellows! I'm sure you can get a brake job (provided that you don't need new discs) for less than $1,700, but the other maintenance costs might even be a bit higher, so your overall estimate may be pretty close. A friend had to get the brakes done on his CTT only a few months prior to the termination of his lease (ouch). Something to consider if you're planning on leasing.

My new Mercedes cabrio is the first car I've had in a long time that doesn't have free scheduled maintenance and now I'm also bracing myself for the high ownership costs of my forthcoming GTS (a second set of wheels/tires, no free maintenance, higher fuel consumption). Definitely made me look hard at BMW! But I realized that the X5 didn't get my pulse racing and the X6 lacked the utility I need.

With Porsche, you definitely pay to play. Only you can decide if it's worth it for you.

I do not have specific information but I can assure you that dealerships do NOT live on just the $ above stated invoice pricing no matter what anyone says. Porsche, Mercedes or BMW whomever...... It would be literally impossible to sustain a business let alone a single point Porsche dealership with as few cars as most of them sell if that were not the case. Maintenance and parts included. There is money behind the line they just might not call it "hold back" $. Porsche AG is the most profitable manufacturer in the car business and they are NOT keeping all the $ for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm not whining, we just bought a brand new GTS. I would much rather buy from a healthy company as opposed to one who might be around a year from now........ My wife and I have had 50+ cars in 16 years so I've been down this road a time or two. I just don't buy the "we only make X% (would they really tell you?)", that's all.
