Spiced Up Cayenne
The Range Rover isn't the only 4x4 adding on the muscle - as Porsche is working on a power hike for its Cayenne Turbo. The improvements will see its output rise from 450bhp to more than 500bhp thanks to the addition of a different turbo and intercoolers, a remapped ECU and a more potent exhaust system.
The upgrade has already been confirmed for the US market, but Porsche is remaining tight-lipped about when it will be available from UK dealers. "Such a move isn't beyond the bounds of possibility and I don't doubt it's being developed," said a spokesman for Porsche GB. "But it won't happen here this year and probably not the next, as the Cayenne Turbo is already the most powerful SUV in its class and our order books are full."
When the upgrade does arrive in 2005, it's expected to add around テつ」5,000 to the cost of a standard Cayenne Turbo. With the sticker price currently more than テつ」68,000, the move will push the figure well over the テつ」70,000 mark.
Meanwhile, Porsche bosses have confirmed that they would like to find homes for 2,000 Cayennes a year in the UK, accounting for just under 10 per cent of the model's total global sales. American buyers are expected to take up the highest quota of the off-roader's annual 25,000 production.
