ding on my door! 09 GTS

Hey guys im new to the forums.. need advice please.

Got my new 09 GTS during the 1st week of Aug. Two weeks ago, I went on a road trip from Vancouver, BC to San Fransico, then to LA then to Las Vegas. Had a blast "breaking-in" the car. Coming back to the hotel parking lot in Vegas, my friend spotted a chip on my door (behind the passenger side) I was 100% sure it wasnt there before. Whoever was the car to my right can burn in hell! The paint has been chiped off (about half the size of a grain of rice) but there is no dent. I went back to the Porsche dealer and said they can have the door repainted and it's gona be expensive. Or I can claim it with my insurance but i wouldnt really want my insurance to go up. What other option/alternative can i do?

edit: how do i edit the thread tittle?

you say its a chip on the paint, not a ding, if you go to any reputable body shop that should cost no more than $600 or so.

sorry for the confusion.. yeah it's a chip on the paint. not a ding. (im always thinking of dings when doors are involved). I went to a reputable body shop, autostrasse and they dont have the exact paint (when they saw my GTS they said it's the first time they have seen that colour )

Regarding insurance....if your deductible isn't too high, you could possibly file it as COMPREHENSIVE loss if you can sweet talk the agent that it was from no-fault of your own or from a rock falling off a truck etc...

Regarding the road trip - what was your best mpg? I did some testing to and from Tahoe from SF this past Labor Day weekend and was getting around 16mpg on the way up, and 19mpg on the way down.

this is what i do

i use langka. touch up the spot with your touch-up paint and let it dry. afterwards apply the langka and it will smooth down the paint till it is flush with the factory paint. let's face it, these chips are inevitable, don't repaint it till the car is older and has more chips.

Just buy a bottle of paint from your dealer and touch it up yourself. If it's half the size of a grain of rice, it shouldn't be conspicuous. Sadly, you're going to get more dings... especially in Vancouver. So when you get another, get it repaired later. At least that's my $20 advice.
Hope to see the GTS around. Love this car, but pretty rare. Black one near me in Yaletown is all I have seen.

My GTS is only in km/hr. I didnt really measure fuel consumption but ill try.. The GTS holds 100 Litres of fuel (according to the manual). I refuel whenever the warning light comes up. I travel roughly around 500-600kms per refueling. (My driving mood always changes from gentle to brutal ) Hope that makes sense..

Same thing happened to my CTT few months ago. Took the kids to Stanley Park. New chip found at passenger door. Was upset for a few hours. Applied some OEM touch-up paint and don't think about it anymore.
For a daily use car, chips are going to happen whether you like it or not. Don't lose any sleep on them. Don't waste money to re-spray the door.

Don't feel too bad....I had my GTS for 4 months and got caught in a hail storm with hail the size of golf *****. It looked like someone took a hammer to the hood and roof. All fixed though, body shop did paintless dent removal and it looks good as new. Remember its a car and dings are inevitable.

One modification that I highly recommend for the GTS is getting 2nd cat. bypass pipes. You'll love the noise that comes out of it.

Nice! Another GTS in the GVRD.

I had some minor scratches on my Infiniti FX when I brought it back to the dealer...he said he can take care of it with a mobile paint chip repairer...around $200. I never asked who he uses. Wonder if these guys are any good: http://www.softouchdetailing.com/services.html

BTW, love the GTS Red! Wished I had that colour but the missus wouldn't let me get another red car. LULZ.
