Question Valentine One

Hey guys I recently purchased a Valentine 1, what a great radar detector! Anyways, I figured many of you guys have a Valentine One, so I have a couple questions for those of you that HARD WIRED your V1 into the Cayenne would be kind enough to answer..

1.) Where did you route the wire? Did you just shove it in there or did you take any particular peices off?

2.) Did you do it yourself, or did you pay to have it done? Can I do it myself??

3.) Where should I plug the power into in the car?? Any outlets that look like the telephone cord hole I can plug it into?

where did you get your V1?? How much?
I once hardwired a radar on my Audi. I went to audio shop to do it.

you can only buy your Valentine from one place : the actual company! www.valentine1.com They are a very professional company and they are trustworthy! We have ordered a couple V1's from them, one for myself and ordered a couple for friends that werent computer smart. Even with STANDARD shipping, it comes within 5 business days. The radar detector from V1 cost $399, and let me tell you it blows the Passport 8500 out of the water. I had a guy that i drove to school with every day for two years that had one of these and experienced firsthand how good it was, which was why I recently bought mine. My father has the 8500, it is okay but i perosnally think the V1 is alot better! My father also has a K40 in one of his mercedes and I think the v1 is just as good if not better, yet only like 1/6 the price lol

V1 Hardwire

I've had a couple of V1's in a few Porsche's.

In the CT, the easiest thing to do is to use the V1 "Hardwire Kit" which includes a cable and a socket that looks like a RJ12. You can then run the electrics up to the map light area and hard wire it there.

I have it mounted just below the mirror, with the cord running behind the mirror up to the headliner. After that, it goes under the headliner.

I had a local car audio/alarm shop (in San Carlos, CA) that I trust do it. They did a couple installs on my Boxster and did a good job. I'm always a little nervous when someone starts taking panels off my baby, but they're reliable.

Where does the power plug in exactly in the headliner??

I believe he was describing the point "A" to point "B" with "A" being his power source from the socket and "B" being his termination point below the mirror.

The connection wiring route would be under the headliner.

I hardwired my detector myself, it was very easy. I mounted it up by the mirror, pushed the cord under the liner next to the windshield, then snugged it between the a pillar and the windshield down to the dash. I did it on the windshield side of the a pillar so that it would be on the non inflating side of the airbag. Ony pitfall is a little wire is exposed going over the speaker cover on the dash enroute to the fuse box. I left it exposed so that I could avoid taking apart the dash, I may try to conceal it better some day. If you want a pic of the exposed wire, and install, I could snap one.

How have other people routed their wires to avoid the head airbag in the a pillar?

Since no one else posted pictures or a how to, here is my Valentine One in a Cayenne Turbo install:

V1 main unit here with phone cord tucked in headliner and behind rain sensor mirror wires:



Then I came down the windshield side of the drivers side A pillar and took off the drivers side speaker grill and tucked the phone cord under that and pulled it(like floss) down into the fuse panel area:






I then tapped off this 5amp fuse. I can't rememeber what number it is, or what it does to, but it was one of the few that was switched with ignition. I must have tried 10 before I got this one to work. Most of them are always on. You should be able to figure out what fuse it is from the picture:



And finally here are pics of where and how I installed the concealed display. I'm not super happy with it as it looks a little out of place, but it will due for now, and maybe I will relocate it in the future:



I was able to hide ALL wires except the last few inches of phone cord you see going into the concealed display and V1 unit. I used a small flat head screw driver and a plastic smoothing tool(used to smooth air out of reuseable racing numbers and sometimes used by tint shops) to push the phone cord into the head liner, A pillar and around the speaker/dash area.

This is where the wire is tucked under the headliner, and beside the a-pillar. I went on the windshield side of it to try my best not to interfere with the airbag.

Lol same solution two different ways! Nice! Yours is probably better since it uses less phone cord in the head liner. There must be a typo in my user manual, because I didn't even know there were fuses on the other side! I guess that's why there are two pages for "drivers side fuse box" LOL!

I just hardwired my V1
Mounted under mirror ,then ran wire along top of windshield . At the pillar tuck it into top of "airbag trim" around to rubber doorseal ,Then down under seal and can go right into fuse box on drivers side. The hard wire that comes with V1 has an end with a male connector covered with blue plastic . trim off the plastic and push it into fuse location # 48 (switched)in the bottom ( you can look and see that the bottom spot has metal clips ,The top doesn't. this should make sense when you look ) The ground can be attached to any screw attached to metal. If you have the concealed display you can run that wire from inside the fuse box to the steering column so that it comes out on top of column. I attached with supplied velcro right to column. It works great.
