is this a real question? is this a trick question? and Seattle996, are you serious?

whatever..

Base Cayenne and S model has a couple of differences. Biggest difference is the engine size. Base model Cayenne has a V6 3.6liters DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) engine, whereas the S model has a larger V8 4.8liters DFI engine. S model has bigger brakes (S model has the same brakes as the Turbo model). S model was available before the base model, and released late 2002 (Model year 2003). S model comes with larger wheels than base model. I believe these are the only differences.

Also, the base model which has the smaller brakes the calipers are painted black, the S model they are silver. The instrument cluster surround is also black where as the S model gets the aluminum trim. Rear cayenne logo is balck on the v6 usually as well. And, at least in my country, the base model doesn't have dual climate AC.

I see too many "S" models driving around only to see that they have the black smaller calipers

The V6, S, and GTS all have the same braking system, the calipers color are teh only differences.

Really the only difference is stock wheel size, a bit of stainless trim and engine.

What???????no way, there are brake size differences!

Like I said before, brake disk sizes are different, smaller brakes on the v6, at least on 03-06 models

Brake discs measure 13.00 inches (330 mm) on all V6 Cayennes with calipers finished in black. The Cayenne S gets even larger 13.78-inch (350-mm) front discs and silver-painted calipers. The Cayenne Turbo gets even larger discs, 14.49 inches (368 mm) in front and 14.09 inches (358 mm) at the rear with red calipers.

Casey@TPCRacing, you should do some research before popping up like that. That's bad reputation for your shop ...

Guess i learn something new every day... i assumed since they use the same calipers the rotors were the same size.

the bad rep comment is a little rediculous, btw

I don't think it's ridiculous since I wouldn't bring my vehicle into a shop where they have wrong information about my vehicle. If I'd ask for a brake replacement, wouldn't your shop just replace them with V6 brakes, considering they are all the same...

Whatever, I didn't mean to be an a**hole, just my $0.02...

Am I serious?? I'm about as serious as this same guy who wanted to tear out the rear seats of his Cayenne in order to improve gas mileage.

So how significant is the difference in the MPG? I am debating between the S & non S for the wife, as I would love the power of the V8, but have to consider my wife's commute (15-20mi = 45-75 min in traffic). She could care less about the add'tl power.......

BTW, I am looking at '06s and above and would love the '08-09.
