Cayenne Turbo > M5

Cayenne Turbo > M5
Was behind a blue M5 with VA plates on my way home from the office today. Asian male driving leaning WAY back and slouched WAY down in the drivers seat. Thought he was all that I guess. Can't blame him the last body style M5 is a sweeeet ride.
Beautiful weather, sun shining, n ot a cloud in the sky, 75*. I had all the windows down and the sunroof open. Saw him notice me in my rear view and closed up all the glass and switched off PSM.
HOLY COW! I thought he would pull away from me having almost as much hp and less weight but I was WRONG! I was up his bumper several times and I had to lift off!
This really pissed him off cause he tried again and again. He never let me by, and drove like an a$$hole weaving in and out of traffic(I didn't just waited for a gap to open up and then caught back up to him again), but every time I could tell he was going for it...huge cloud of smoke out his quad exhaust. Each time I saw that I floored it and the Cayenne kicked down and I was up his behind in a flash.
I have no doubts in my mind he was getting better gas mileage than I was though
I was really surprised by this. I was epecting a fun encounter where I got pulled and I was shocked at the outcome. I know it wasn't luck cause it happened several times. I don't know how the two would fare from a stop, but on the highway it was clear the Turbo Pepper was faster.
Anyone know offhand what an M5 weighs?(not the latest bangled creation, but the beautiful one with 400hp right before it)

I don't think it had anything to do with the driver...how hard is it to put it in gear and stomp on it?
It's not like he had to shift multiple times(if it even was an automatic) like in a 1/4 mile. This was on the highway.
Do you think the M5 is faster? I did too, until today....and I don't think driver skill was a factor in this.

I doubt the M5 was modfied. Anyone have a picture of the stock exhaust?
It had stock rims and wasn't lowered so I am guessing stock suspension. Can you do an intake or chip on M5? Does it yield any power? He might have had an exhaust but it looked stock to me. I'd need a good picture to tell.
I was very impressed with the CT, and like I said I don't think this was luck or driver error(on his part) As pissed as he was, I was surprised/happy.

Glad to see you had a good run. I defintely think something is wrong with that M5 though. A stock M5 should be able to pull somewhat on a Cayenne Turbo at any speed. Either way, it is very impressive that the Turbo pulled on the M5. Nice job and beautiful SUV!

i dunno guys, I drove a 2002 M5 6-speed for the weekend and in all honesty, I felt that my CT was much faster?!?! The M5 was an ULTIMATELY sweet machine, but was lacking in the power division IMHO? I would love to line up against one.

Interesting, in all the bench racing stats the M5 is faster then the Turbo. I have raced a Cayenne Turbo once and was winning even with a slipping clutch. Maybe 6speeder's Cayenne owners got lucky and got some very strong examples of the truck.

Dunno...only 600 miles on the od...
I also turned off PSM, which makes a HUGE difference. Shifts faster, holds rpms longer in auto mode(which I was in) and PSM off + manual mode adds even more rpms and it will NOT upshift unless you tell it(you'll bounce off the rev limiter just like a manual tranny would).
All windows were shut and the A/C was off.

to answer your earlier question the e39 m5 weight approximately 3900 Lbs depending on driver/gas/options thats posibly 400 pounds on 394 hp and about 370 ft/lbs of torque.
all numbers are rough....
Its possible the car was modded indicated by the fact it was blowing black smoke when he nailed it which could be a sign of the car running rich, or catless or god knows what else but most mods on that car will cost you mid low and mid range power unless you are willing to spend serious $$.

Just about every manual car I know of, even a 4 cylinder honda accord or acura integra blows some smoke on an aggressive downshift and foot to the floor. I can't speak from experience, but I would guess an automatic downshifting would do the same.
The tips on the exhaust looked like bare pipe. No fancy tips. If the stock car has fancy tips, then he had an exhaust for sure, BUT it wasn't very loud at all. It was actually quiet.
Based on the sound (or lack of) the exhaust and the fact that I pulled him I am guessing he was bone stock.
