noisy brakes and rapid wear

Had my CTT since Sept. 2007. Bought it new. I'm the only driver. Now just passed 5000 miles. Mainly usual city driving, no tracking.

Front brakes has been squeaking since few months ago. Complained to dealer who said that some brakes squeak is normal.

Got fed up by the noise and took car into dealer for checkup. They found the front brake pad only has 4 mm left, and rear at 6 mm (normal is 12 mm). They said they haven't seen such a rapid brake wear before. They said when front reaches 3 mm, the sensor will come up and need to replace brake pad at my expense.

I want to know if someone has heard of rapid brake wear like this before, and your experience with squeaking brakes. Thanks.

canberk is infamous around these parts
I've also bought my Cayenne around Sept. 2007 and have 20k miles on it and no problems with the brakes yet (the pads are still the ones that came with the car, not yet replaced). The only problem could be that you drove with your footbrake (or handbrake maybe) on. There might be a problem with your brake system that when you release the footbrake, it may still be active

I have seen Cayenne wear brakes at 14k miles before, especially ones with lots of city driving. But 5k seems very premature. Do you ride the brake a lot or left foot brake? The squeeking brakes are common if you do not rebed the pads every so often with some heavy braking and cycling heat into the rotors and pads and letting them cool. Happens a lot with city driving.

And I can back that up with mine squeaking. A quick evening at the dragstrip or on a deserted road with some heavy braking gets them quiet again for a few weeks.

Thanks for the above advises. This is exactly what the dealer suggested earlier, to go for a drive and do some heavy braking to make the noise better. I did that a few times. Maybe this is leading to the premature pad wear??

My driving habit hasn't change, no left foot braking or riding on brakes. My last Cayenne S has over 15K miles and no brake pad changing. Current 997S with track use has more pad left than the CTT. I wonder if they change some new material for the pad?

If dealer hasn't seen "such a rapid brake wear before" it should be covered under warranty as it is manufacturer defect. I would escalate to Porsche corporate if you get nowhere with dealer.
