Help :) Far from a dealer and my tranny is acting up....

Well I'm in Northern BC and the closest dealer is about 600 miles away so I'm curious if the issue I'm having can be fixed by some help from this community.

2003 Cayenne S with about 80K miles, she's been really good until I went up to pick up my new boat. About 200 miles after attaching the boat (Only 2500 pounds) the tranny starting shaking in D6 mode when it's under low rev levels.

A few weeks ago I did get the message "Shift lever in position P" when I turn the car off even though the shifter is in Park.

Since it was nearly 1am when this happened I pulled over looked for any smell, leaks etc and didn't notice anything. I was about 50 miles from the hotel so I put it in tiptronic mode and drove to the hotel no problems.

This morning I started driving her in tiptronic mode and it switches itself to Auto mode and I constantly have to go back to tiptronic to avoid the sudden vibration it produces at really low rpms (1400). On the shifter if I try to switch manually it dosen't do work, only on the paddles on the steering wheel.

Feel free to post up some others Q's if you have them for me or give me any advice or previous threads that may help me out too. Any help is VERY much appreciated

Oh man.. nothing worse than the transmission. Trust me, I have had similar issues with my CTT. I need to have the valve body replaced, approximately $2,000. Some have had to get the ECU for the transmission reset, others have needed to replace the transmission control unit.

S*** buddy. I hope its nothing big, but if you can drive it in tiptronic, just do that. It could very well be the control unit.. which isn't too expensive.. couple hundred bucks I think.

Seattle thanks for such a quick response, it does seem to be something wrong with the electronics. I will be able to sleep lighter tonight knowing it should make it back to the dealer without a $2000 tow bill

Seattle sorry to leave you hanging but I was out in Australia for work and didn't really bother with bringing my laptop.

Anyways I made the drive home, didn't have any problems, just kept it in tiptronic at above 1500 rpms. Got to the dealer and they replaced the black slider just under the shift **** to fix my tranny issue. A coin got stuck in it and caused one problem.

Then a few days ago I started the pepper and once again noticed a very rough idle at below 800 rpm, about two minutes later the check engine light came on. I plugged in my On Board Diagnostic scanner and there is a misfire in cylinder 7. Getting the ignition coils changed on all cylinders with new spark plugs to solve this. Forgot to ask hom much around this costs so any guesses would be welcome

I think the coils are around $250 canadian from your "local" stealer. Suncoast sells them for $120us.

You should have them check the warranty records on your Pepper. I would be surprised if you still had the original coils are they typically failed in the first 2 years of driving and were replaced under warranty .

Thanks for the advice, I just checked full records since new and the coils have never been replaced surprisingly. I was aware of the relative price of the coils but curious about the labour required for each one, have no clue if it's fairly quick like a spark plug or is each one a $140 hour of labour?

I use to own a bodyshop and we worked on Porsche and Volvo cars so luckly I have a great relationship and know everyone at the dealer but also still get my wholesale price on all parts I actually fixed up a few of these cayenne turbos with damage that worked out to $50,000 invoices

Have been to the Suncoast site and I'm tempted to order a few goodies though

Also attached a picture about 6 hours before the problem I encountered in the first post
