Cayenne key

So,,, I wanted to have another master key for my Cayenne and ordered the key from Sunset Imports.
The parts adviser informed me that it would be more accurate to have the dealer to cut the key via using my existing key than ordering one using the VIN#.

I stopped by my local p-dealer but they informed me other way around, it would work better to order one using the VIN# than cutting it using my existing key.

I'm pretty sure there must be someone out there who has purchase additional master key for their Cayenne, could you please share your experiences?

Thanks in advance!

they cut it by your VIN number, and it is accurate. That's also how they cut your initial keys at Porsche dealership so nobody can say that it won't be accurate...

Thanks,

I take it as, my local P-dealer should be able to cut my blank key according VIN#.

I had an impression that my local P-dealer would order the key from somewhere instead of them cutting it.

Cutting the key is done by the VIN. You will still it programmed at the dealer.

Also note that with some dealerships, the key can be cut based on the cut of your old key. Also, when getting your new remote programmed bring ALL of your remotes/keys. Otherwise the one you forgot at home, will no longer function.

Great! Thanks for the info.

I guess it won't be that expensive to order only the blade part.

Will let you know what my findings are.

i had my keys cut with the VIN and the key was wrong. The dealer had to cut the key with a new blank key. Most Porsche dealers can cut blank keys. The funny thing was they wouldn't order the key over the phone, i had to take the car to the dealer, and they had to verify that I owned the car.

probably it's best to go to dealer and have them do it. if you order by VIN and happens to be wrong, i think it's more hassle to go through whereas you know the key is working or not right away at dealer.
