RUSSIAN CAYENNECLUB under attack
Sorry if i choose wrong area for this post, but all of this about Cayenne
this situation in news on the radio!
Members of Russian cayenne club sent to Porsche AG letters like this:
Dear (To whom it may concern)
I am being the member of Russian Cayenne amateurs club. Our club exists for more than 3 years, our amateur club numbers more than 1000 registered Porches Cayenne owners and amateurs all around Russia and Eastern Europe countries. Nearly 300 members participate in discussions held on the forum of the Club; approximately 1800 guests visit our forum every day. Participants and visitors of the forum can find and share common ideas in the Basic part of the forum, can exchange their experience in maintenance and proper technical service ideas, advantages and preferences of different models of Cayenne (including the advantages compare to other car manufactures), tuning and styling ideas of different makes. We congratulate the purchasers of new and pre owned Cayenne cars, we welcome new members, etc. We evaluate the official dealer’s services from the customer point of view. We also participate in other forum and club activities that are organized and initiated by the club members.
Several weeks ago the founder of our club and forum creator faced certain trouble concerning the registered domain name. Some employee from the legal department of Porsche Russland (Mr. Dmitry Kourdukov) initiated a court trail against the owner of the domain because Amateur club is not official Porsche Club (but it unites a lot car fans and gives them the opportunity to communicate.) and has no right to use the brand name Cayenne in its domain name and symbols. The court will take place on 5th May in Moscow. After the active discussion that took place on the forum the owner of the club received health and life threats to him and his family members from people presenting themselves as Porsche Russland security service and former FSB officers (Federal Security Service). He also receives permanent pressure from Mr. Dmitry Kourdukov. His family had to report on this fact to Police in written form. (the scan of the statement attached to this latter).
This fact could not be ignored by hundreds of Cayenne car owners and its fans. Such irresponsible pressure on Cayenne club members and Cayenne purchasers undermines our confidence in Porsche as in respectable luxury segment car manufacturer and reliable customer service provider.
Actions undertaken by Mr. Kourdukov in the name of Porsche Russland do not seem adequate to civilized society and to current marketing conditions on the car market and can prevent hundreds of Porsche clients from buying and servicing their cars with official representatives. And can bring more harm to Porsche then unofficial amateur fan club existence.
Me as a Cayenne owner would be very pleased if Porsche officials could solve this unpleasant incident and would do their best to organize constructive dialog in order to help Cayenne society enter the world of Porsche fans in proper and pleasant manner. Members of the club are very loyal to their Cayenne cars and I believe would be very pleased to participate in Porsche activities and fan meetings. Their experience and opinions could be very useful to Porsche in further car development and current servicing. Me as a club member I would be very pleased to continue communicating and discussing common interests in cars with like-minded Cayenne fans.

Basically they are upset because their forum URL's contain the word Cayenne and Porsche AG took exception to that...it's probably a big deal for the owners because every post has a url that would have to be changed, they will lose links and search position...not a happy situation

Okay, but the way I understand it (and I am NOT a lawyer by any means) is that in order for Porsche to keep Cayenne as a registered trademark they have to defend its use by other parties. If they start to make exceptions then it can set precedence for other people to use it and invalidate the copyright/trademark.
I heard of a similar thing happen to a Honda Odessey forum many years ago (it was my wife's!!!) and they had to change the forum name.

i cant see how there would be any issues as the word cayenne is not copyright or protected by porsche, it was a pepper long before it was a car?, just add a little red chillie, to the logo and alls good.
