New Owner with a Rack question

Hello All,

I finally took the plunge and grabbed a certified 05 Turbo - love it so far and can't wait for the snow to fly.

Here is my question - My truck has the roof rails that run the length of the truck and I am wondering if there are oem crossbars that I can mount a ski box to or if I have to go with a Thule setup. I would like to find a way to mount the crossbars under the rack so that the box sits as low as possible on the roof.

On a side note - what are your thoughts on painting the ski box red to match the brakes? Too garish or kinda' cool? I'm torn.

Great forum by the way.

Cheers!

Congrats on the purchase!
There are two types of bars. The ones that Kerr shows above, and another set which clamp on to the roof rails you already have. I am sure suncoast carries them....sponsor on right----->

Got it - Thanks!! They're called the "adjustable crossbars" and will do the trick.

Much appreciated. Now let's see if I can figure out how to mount them under the rails to get the box to sit lower.

Cheers

Another option is to get the roof rails so you can mount any Yakima/Thule etc setup you could ever dream of....one example:

Not sure about mounting the cross bars lower ... but I use a Yak box on mine with yakima cross bars & the lockable "towers" which grab onto the factory rails. Super easy.

I leave the cross bars attached under the box, lift it off with a pulley storage setup hanging from my garage ceiling and can easily switch it between the Cayenne and my S6 wagon. Takes maybe 5-10 minutes to put on or off this way.

Ha...nope, I'm from California, but do visit NZ to ski once a year. The guy in the yellow owns NZskier magazine...hence the tag.

Racks - do you have roof rails? If so, just buy the clamps that grip around them and then you can get the length of bars you prefer. The box pictured is great for ease of on and off because it just clamps onto the bars. However, the GTS's rear top spoiler accent is more extended than a normal Cayenne so it will rub a bit to the box. You may be able to get a shorter box, as mine is probably the longest...for mostly skis.

OP, I have the latter. I believe that is what you want. It's OEM and priced around $260, if I recall. They are mounted on the rails that run the length of the vehicle and are adjustable. I believe if you have these, you will also have mounting options for skis or lengthy stuff like that.

I have the rails, but was most interested in what size/make the box was. Im making a trip to Aspen this year and love the set up with the box and a place for my snowboards..........and my girls skis... i guess
